Weld a leaf spring?

My rear leaf spring broke at the wrap causing the truck to come off the shackle and rest on the frame. I was stupid and re-routed my exhaust and failed to pay attention to the direction it was pointed. So the exhaust completely melted the bushing causing the srping to rattle around until it broke at the wrap....kinda weird I know.

So my question is, can you weld this stuff?  I was just going to throw some steel back on and call it good.  I don't think I would do this normally but it is the rear part of the spring and it does not locate the axle. If it breaks again I will only have a sagging rear end.

Thanks in advance.

It will weaken it where you weld and break again eventually   Trail fix its ok  but dont count on it

Heating it will cause it to loose the spring load in it, not only will it sag and bend it will break.

I cant see it getting any weaker..... it literally melted the bushing in about a 20 min drive and broke off like pot metal. But I do hear what you guys are saying.... If it breaks that easly on the highway (it was hardly noticeable by the way) then it will certainly break while wheeling.

If your truck is home youd better just replace the spring.

replace the spring, dont risk the safety of others, or yourself

Leaf springs are "spring steel", a weld is not. The springs are designed to flex and the weld, being hard, will not flex and will break in VERY short amount of time.

yeah i agree with everyone else and replace it.
