reduction housing, paging marlin
« on: Apr 15, 2004, 09:15:24 AM »
I recently recieved a bunch of t-case parts from a buddy of mine. One of the reduction housings was all marred up around where the counter shaft main bearing blew up. So it isn't any good for use with a stock counter shaft bearing as the bearing would possibly just spin in there. My question, is if these housings can be drilled out for a larger bearing? Has anyone done this? Are there bearings available who's inner diameter is will fit the countershaft, but the outer diameter is larger?

The factory countershaft bearing is a 63/32N and is a 32x75x20mm wide. I am not aware of a oversize application.
I have never repaired a spun case.

No worries. I don't need this reduction housing as I already have a couple of them. It just seems like a waste to throw this one away if it can be saved, and/or possibly upgraded with a larger bearing.

Marlin, you mentioned that you had never done this before. If you would like a reduction housing to play with, and don't want to trash a good one, you are more than welcome to have this one.
