Does anyone know the best way to squeeze some more power out of a 3vzfe?

Hey 84runner, it's the 3.0 v6 in 88-95 toys. I'm wondering if anyone has done any mods to one of these puppies.

I really don't have much experinece with these motors exactly, but anything you can do to get more air in is always good, like a K&N kit , and a bigger MASS or is it a MAF  :headscratch: sensor not sure wich is on those  :dunno: . And you can do a home port job on your throttle body and feather it into you plentum, Then some legal cames if your in California and a set of headers.  :dunno:

Replace it with a 3.4 V6 that will give ya some more power.

3.4 swap? Easier said than done. My 3.0 has only 77k miles on it and is actually sufficient especially compared to the 22re which is what I was used to before. I can cruise on the highway in 5th gear with 35's, even with grades. I understand that doa sells an aftermarket throttle body and downey sells headers. Anyone ever tried these?

I have heard good things about downys headers but no first hand experience, But one of the fall backs is installation. I believe the passanger header comes around the back side of the motor to meet the drivers side, a real pain in the  :moon: I'm pretty sure CruzerDave has some first hand experience on these

Headers would be good, i hear that V6 Headers are one of the best mods you can make to both the 3.0 and 3.4 and that downey's are the best for the V6.  The hardest part is getting the crossover pipe out which for most involves a sawzall.  Also if you got body lift I think it creates a problem with V6 Headers.  I know for sure that my Tacoma with the 3.4 if I had body lift the headers wouldn't fit.  But body lift sucks anyway so thankfully I don't have that problem.

Hey 95TacoTruck, what kind of headers are you running?

Has anyone installed any type of headers on a 3.0 v6 with a dual t-case? I'm not sure if the standard headers will clear?

Hey Fred. Downey has the best ( IMO ). The crossover pipe goes under the bell housing. The crossover they have does under the factory IFS drive shaft. I think it will stick down to low. I know your truck is a lot like mine and with the Hypinion the drive shaft may hit on uptravel. I think a custom crossover snugged up tight to the bellhousing will solve that problem. Downey also offers ported and polished intakes, air chambers and TB. I can't remebr who sells them but DOA or LC had P/P heads and a head stud conversion kit.  But with that you close to $ on a 4.3 vortec I can hook you up with. :eyebrow:

The MSD ignition, K&N intake, headers will give you that little extra yo want. After that is probly more high end performce you'll get.

Hey Dave,
I figured some kind of custom header would be needed, particularly, as you said, the crossover pipe since it's a trouble spot. What are you running on your truck? I don't plan on getting too crazy with the performance mods, just a little extra oomph!
