Old style vs New style ARB's....Install Issues w/ new...
« on: Jun 03, 2007, 07:55:11 AM »
Just attempted to install a New Style ARB w/ 5.29s

I had clearance issues with the way the copper tube was routed over the ring-gear. Every-time I slid the 3rd member in, I had no issue until I was tightening it down. That was when the copper line was making contact with the back of the housing (IFS Rear Housing). I tried tweaking the line to fit better, but no luck.
Then I went to look at an old ARB 3rd I had laying around and that's when I discovered that in the old style ARB, the copper line does not go over the ring gear.

I have no clue as to why they designed the new one to be such a pita...

So heres what I did just in-case anyone else has the same issue.

I re-routed the copper line as shown.

Has anyone else run into this problem?  ...or any other suggestions?

For what it's worth...
I decided to redo the copper tubing.
I was a bit worried that the gear-oil wash may be enough to push the copper tubing into the ring-gear.
So I believe this will work well:

Note:
The drilling and notching should be done prior to assembly. It would make things a bit easier. But this procedure wasn't too bad as is.

My buddy chewed through his after denting the diff housing.  However mine is set up with the tube running across the top and not the rear.

Also it appears that the wash of the gear oil isn't enough to move the tube into the gears.

My problem is that the 1/8" back and forth movement of the seal housing caused the tube to pull away from the bulkhead enough to cause an air leak big enough that it wont engage.
