I was wondiring if any of you have had any experience with the Toyota 1 L Diesel engine?  I am looking at the possibilities of swapping one in to my 1984 4runner which currently has a 22r.  From what I have read it is similar to the later engines but with a smaller displacement (2.2L vs. 2.4L).  It is not the most powerful engine but adding a turbo could help that.  I was wondering if they are notorious for having any problems, and how many RPMs they should cruise at, since I will need to regear.  Thanks in advance.  :turtle:

What is the best way to put one of these engines on a G52 transmission?  Can I just remove the belhousing on the G52 ond bolt the one from the 1 L right up to the tranny?  Is the bellhousing cast into the block of the 1 L?  Also what do I need to do for a clutch?  Thanks again.

You might be better to find a 2Lt or 3Lt they are a little bigger, But the best will be a 1KZT or 1KZTE this is a 3.0L.
The 1KZT is the hardest to find but does not have the electronic fuel control.

I just picked up a 1KZTE from Jarco in GA. for $3900.00 . This was a full half cut and ran complete with everything need for a swap. It is harder to find them with manual transmissions, but they are out there. You can also check with japarts.com. they are in Au. Best bet for a manual trans.
