A day off.  Nothing to do, no responsibilities.  That is all.

I know that feeling all to well lately, it seems nobody can do their job without having to call me 1st these days. I turned off my cell phone last night so I could just sleep for once.

Oh, I'll get bored, but I'm just lazy enough that I'll do nothing to stem my boredom.  I have some plans for my 1 day off this week, but there are things I absolutely hafta do too.  Some will make me money though cause I sold some stuff on ebay.  Might grab one of my other motorbikes too and bring it to the house for some tinkerin :hammer:  Hafta change the oil in the truck cause it's been a long time, probably should change it in the bike too but I don't wanna spend the $50 for oil and filter.

I'm probably a little more frazzled than normal today too.  I've been telling my boss for months that I wanted to buy 2 1/2 old boat motors we haven't used for years and have no intent on using.  These are motors they were looking to get rid of, as well as a bunch of others which I also voiced interest in.  I showed up to work on my day off today, and whatya think I see in the trailer with all the other outgoing motors?  That's right, my 2.5 motors were loaded up and heading out.  I asked him what the deal was or if it was payback for me forgetting to bring down a palot of junk yesterday and he said he forgot, so I told him that was strike 2.  Little does he know strike 3 is fast approaching if I still don't get the raise I've been getting jerked around about since last august.  Worst part of it is my boss is my friend too, so if I do end up quitting it's gonna be akward, but after 12 years I'm just getting tired of being jerked around all the damn time.  It's sad to think that despite my low pay I'm the second highest paid hourly employee, second to another mechanic.

I just really need to go to bed now :burnout:

My problem is more one of people who just can't do their job, period.  We hired a girl to wrench because she had such a shining resume.  She lied.  We thought she was this big army helicopter mechanic, but in reality she had absolutely no mechanical knowledge and was never involved in any troubleshooting or diagnostics.  I timed a motor for her the other day and she was absolutely clueless how to do it, didn't even know where to hook the leads or where/what I was looking at for timing marks :smack:  She also has a mouth that would embarass most sailors and doesn't know how to check the f-bombs around customers.  Me thinks she'll be let go just after memorial.  I'm very tired of babysitting everybody.  I have 1 very good guy under me and just wish we could find more like him.  We don't even care if we see him standing around talking on occassion because it's just that, on occassion.  I HAD one guy who was really good and quick, but a couple people who really shouldn't matter have a bug up their butt about him, so there's no way they'll let us re-hire him.  Sucks cause he was both a great mechanic and an excellent boat driver and tower.  I think that's actually the root of some of my bigger issues with my employer right now.  The day I found out we couldn't get him back I was livid and I haven't completely calmed down.  The reasons were stupid and so were the people are :maddest:

Aaaaand it's over :woohoo:  The last of the college kids are gone, all the boats are back in the harbor and I've begun inventorying the damages.  Not bad this year at all, but 2 or 3 people did die on the lake this year.  Too bad people check their brains at the launch ramps  .  Every death was totally preventable, but common sense too often goes out the window when people are having "fun".  I just don't see leaving in a pine box fun :dunno:

yeah people are idiots.  First of all getting all hammered and boating is dumb then add in some of the lack of common sense that alot of younger people have and you have nominees for the darwin award.

kneedownnate

Yup, I definately met plenty of them this weekend!  I feel bad for the family who had to wait while we dealt with the college kids, but they were very understanding.
