Acetone in fuel?

I heard today from my buddy that you can put acetone in your fuel to help boost MPG and power. You would be putting tiny quantities in. He told me he saw something like 2oz of 100%  acetone per every 10 gallons of gas. He also said the only downside is it MAY ruin your fuel lines.

So yeah im looking to see if any of you KNOW of this or have TRIED this themselves. I dont want to hear what you THINK it might do so dont even respond if theres anything to say that you think it may do.

tehre are a bunch of people on explorer forum that tested it, and it does work..... its jsut very insinificant...

there is prity much nothing you can add to gas that will make a significant enuf differenc in mpg to gestify bying it.  people say this works or that works after they try it, they are looking for an inprovement and and it is not under controled cercoumstances so if they see a little impruvment it means nuthing maby they drove different that week(and even if they were trying to somewhat control there test they can't be as persis as a lab.

if there was any cemical that cost less then gas and could be added for a sliet improvmet in mph the gas co. would allredy be useing it and teling us that it was for beter mpg but the trut would be that it caust them less money on there end for the gas we still pay $3.00+ for it.

I do agree with you on the controlled testing. Unless it is tested in a like for like situation you can't really tell. The gas company cannot add anything to the gas for emision puposes. Acetone has been around along time & I'm sure tested in gas. The gas was re-formulated in the late 80's early 90's. When the did that the mpg went down. The old gas was better! Besides, the oil companies don want you to get high mpg, less profit for them

I have done this on my '82 Toy and my '83 Volvo GLT.  Worked for me in both rides.  I have stopped running it in the Turbo(Volvo) for fear of an increased chance of pre-detonation.  I got like 2mpg better in my truck which was like a 12% increase.  just my

last spring i was getting 32-33mpg in my corolla w/3 speed auto.  i tried the acetone and went to 35 (sometimes up to 37) mpg.  i tried to use the same gas station and even tried to use the same pump at every fill + through the week, i pretty much drive to work and back, nowhere else.  i quit using it last fall because the mileage decreased and i wanted to see if it went lower w/o the acetone.  it did not make any difference that time.  i have not used it this spring yet, even though i have a can, simply because i'm lazy (it gets to be a pain measuring and dumping, etc).  my mpg this spring is about 35mpg...no, i don't know why this is.  i've been told they change the gas blends (summer vs. winter), but last year about this time is when i tried the acetone (mpg was 31-32 this winter).

i tried it in my 93 toy 4x4 and mileage seemed to go up about 1-2 mpg--harder to tell since speedo off and i have to make estimate how much it's off.  i also put in a new o2 sensor a little after that and it seemed to make more difference in the mpg than the acetone did.  the idle did seem to be somewhat smoother w/the acetone, but that is obviously more subjective than anything.

i didn't have any hose problems or any other kind of problems from the acetone on either vehicle.

just as an fyi, there is a gm tsb about adding crap to fuel (including acetone) and they say it's bogus.....i seemed to have decent luck like pointed out above, but haven't tried it yet this year.  the acetone i got was from lowes....doesn't say 100% or anything, just says acetone on the can.

I just used el-cheapo stuff.  Wouldn't run it if your car/truck is very sensitive to different fuels or has a turbo.
