Penrose CO - Liberty trail May 12th
« on: May 15, 2007, 02:45:21 PM »
Members of the Rockfrog 4wheel drive club met up in Penrose @ 11am Saturday morning.  We aired down at the Liberty trailhead.  Couldn't have asked for better weather!  The trail has changed quite a bit from the recent rains.  I think it is much tougher then last year.  There are quite a few "diff catchers" smack dab in the middle of the trail.  With 33's, I caught my front and rear diff's 10+ times.

Here's the pictures

I think Jeff needs to adjust his front bumpstops  :D

Hard to get in when the door is 5 feet above the ground  :D

Wow

Exit of Liberty, the hard side is the left side.

Hung up diffs

Looked like an awsome time guys, wish I could have gone this time.
Rather have it and not need it, than need it and not have it.

They are made to fit either way, they have a curve on all 4 sides.

We only ran Liberty in and out.  I need a front and rear bumper and tires larger than 33's to take on Patriot :)

It has been a long time since I was there, my dad and I stopped by a few years back and walked the original trail, but it almost looked like you came out the trail called Freedom that hangs a right a ways into the canyon right before the trails gets really crazy.  I'm not sure I'm brave enough to go it there with 33's.

The main trail is Patriot, which is less than 1/4 of a mile long and can take hours to drive.  Last time we went through Patriot, it took us 6 hours due to brakage and getting stuck for 1.5 hours on one spot (A hole for those who know Patriot).  Liberty is an in and out trail that follow the bottom of a different canyon but intersects Patriot.  The Freedom trail (I don't know why they actually call it a trail) is an early exit on Patriot before you get the tough downhill section of Bunker Hill and the Waterfalls.
