So Im pretty sure its a no, but....

My pinion gear broke 4 teeth. The ring gear is still good. A few months back my frined broke his ring gear and the pinion was still good.

Can I take his pinion and use it with my ring?

Last I heard, no.  Supposedly you won't be able to get the pattern to match up.  But I have been wrong before.

I would say it would depend on how they are worn. if you could get a good backlash it should be fine.

I also taught him how to put in 5min of hard work and then spend 15min staring and admiring what you have done...

strictly wheeling? a big maybe but you DD yours too much to try it like duffil said once a gearset is matched to each other trying to pair them up to strangers is risky, kinda like you wouldnt put used lifters on a new cam

Same maker? not to worn?  try it butt DON'T count on it .
A good day working, that's just sick :reg:

if bothe of the gear sets used the same or close to the same amout of pinion shims maby
put it togther and see if you can get a good patern with gear marking compound, if you can and its a trial only rig go for it.  good luck :gap:

Same brand, maybe same gear cutter, Maybe. You will only know by trying, but if it did work I would only use it in the front.

BTW, if the pinion broke that means it had to beat the crap out of the ring gear and stress it. I would expect the ring to fail next.

If you are going to do anything use new or good parts.

I have done it with tractor R&P and have done it to finish a trip.... but they are loud and  wear fast. If you need to do it to make a run give it a go but expect to change them again pretty soon. Fr what it is worth. My time is very valuble to me since I don't have much of it. If I were going to spend the hours to do a R&P the $200 or so for a install and gears are cheap compared to the hours to do it again a few weeks later.

Cool thanks guys.

I just threw a 4.10 diff in the rear and called it good. Pretty much Im just going to throw a 4.10 in the front, weld the rear, put the aussie back up front and keep that for a while. Not only that Im going to sell those pile of crap toyota axles and then run a 44/14B combo. Screw Toyota axles are  :stopit: The amount of money it will cost for new gears and all the other crap will be the price of a  44/14b combo anyway.
