TurtleTappers91

I'm thinking some offroad pictures are in order?
I just need to escape from work!! :hammerhead:
This truck needs a place to stretch those loooooong legs, And I put in a 4.7 T-case the other day, so time to have fun with that too...
:turtle:The drive train is all Marlin Crawler stuff! :turtle:
Well except the motor of course, I wish they had built that too, It would not be such a POS....but at least it smokes a lot.

you gotta love engine dress up kits. Damn turtletappers you had some fun with blue spray paint and that interior huh. Not bad looking at all, either of you.
Starting from scratch again...

TurtleTappers91

This is at a local spot where the kids build bike jumps. Good spot to do a little testing of the new 4.7 t-case gears and the new bumpstop configuration...looks like decent flex to me.
The diffs are Marlin Crawler built, 4.88 gears, with a rear detroit, and a front High pinion w/ ARB. :sly:
I love my new low range gears, Now The truck will idle up most stuff, I can even hop out and watch the show!

TurtleTappers91

Spent today making front spring hanger braces.
Check it out...

TurtleTappers91

And heres some other stuff:  additional front spring hanger braces in the front, additional side mounting points added to the MC front bumper, my custom sliders, and a nice azz shot!!

For sure!! I'm going to buy a good quality gas sheilded welder soon here, The Chicago was my entry into welding and it served its purpose well, But I need a better welder.. Any suggestions on the model of welder I need? I like the lincoln MIGs.. I posted my so-so welds on here because I am not afraid in the least of critisism Or sh*t talking, But Its not THAT bad anyway, just a little ugly. My brother used this same welder to do the whole SAS on his truck, But He is a better welder than I am....

Thanks. I like the Millers too, I think I'll check into the Millermatic.
I will be doing a rear chevy spring swap real soon, And I will not use the Chicago for that, as someones life may depend on the welds holding the spring mounts on...

Hobart and Miller are the made by the same company,  I have a hobart 140 and it works great on anything up to 1/2(single sided).  When I bought it my neighbor who is a custom bike builder and welder laughed and sayed there is no way something that isnt running 220 is worth a crap, and then when he saw the welding I had done to my jeep and on the front end of my grandpas tractor he was extremely impressed.  I love it cause you can put it anywhere you have a plug.  I have welded up to 1" brackets on tractor equipment and havent ever broken a weld.  So if you want to run 220 go for it,  their great but be honest with yourself and get what will do what you want it to do.  My rig wont fit in my garage so being able to move my welder outside is  essential for me.  I think I payed around 400 bucks for my,  got it from TSC.
Life is too short!!!   Do something with it!!!

Thanks for the info, I'll take all the suggestions I can get about welders, I have been researching this for a while, I don't need 220 power but I do have an outlet....The MIG is what I'm used to so I'll probably go with a Hobart handler 175 or the millermatic 175, I think they are pretty much the same...I still have until next pay day to finalize my descision.
$400.00 to $600.00 sounds like about the right price range. We have been (my brother and I) fabricating more and more lately, He actually uses the Chicago welder to fabricate bumpers and such, And I must say he Is quite good. I can't wait to see the quality of his work with a good machine...

Is that safe? would the breakers still through if they got overloaded?

I dont see any reason why the breaker wouldnt throw if the current got to be too much one breaker would trip and then the welder would be trying to pull from 110 and the other would trip probably instantly.  Sounds interesting though, never would have thought of it myself.

Well I just spent most of the weekend rebuilding the knuckles AGAIN!! :smack: I had stripped steering studs, gear oil leaking from the driver side knuckle, and loose wheel bearings, to name a few. all since the last rebuild a couple months ago!
I think I got it dialed in this time, the ARP steering arm studs are in, the Marlin Crawler seals got put in last weekend, I used the FROR rebuild kit and backing plate eliminators, along with a pair of their $30 used knuckles, which I fully cleaned and re tapped all the threads.
My warn hubs are holding up great so back on they went, no snap rings or cone washers with those, and it makes things easier.
The Birfs are marfields with HD axles.
Those spindle stud kits are a major PITA!! they all wanted to point this way and that, making it impossible to get the spindles/gaskets/seal, etc. on there, It just did not line up! I had to bend the studs a little... :smack: :smack: :smack:
It is all back together now and feels very tight. I hope it can all stay together for a while this time. Here is a few pics I took when I finished up.......

Are the shock boots hurting in some way?
I cant figure it out.... :headscratch:
I thought they kept the mud, sand and grit out?
They are not long enough and the pull loose all the time.....
