i have a 85 yota with 5.29's and 33's (have not bought bigger tires yet thats next) my prob is that my locker worked great until i went on a logging road for about 10 miles. Now it keeps unlocking all the time even driving straight on smooth pavement all it does is pop and pop. Why wont it stay locked in is my question i guess because it didnt do that before.

pull it out and put the right side on the left and the left side on the right. also check the pins to make sure they arent broken.

i installed it and it only has 1000 or so miles on it. i followed the directions to a T and why would the logging road make it all of a sudden act up. i made sure both rear tires a at the exact same presure. i have taken it wheeling two times and still acted fine until i just drove down the bumpy ass logging road.

thanks for the help.

Did you use the thrust washers?

any other suggestions???? if i cant figure out why im just going to pull it and go back to open.

Check tire pressure.  If a large difference, it could cause it to pop.  (altough I doubt as much as you're describing.)

Bent axle?

I'd give detroit a call too.

I had the same problem with the ez locker int he rear of my '84 Runner.  I only got about 15 miles out of mine before it started acting up.  I had to put it in 4 wheel drive to limp home from work.  When I pulled it the metal around the one of the oins was broken.  I returned it and decided to leave it open.  After a while I decided to weld the rearend and it drives way better now than it did for the few miles that the locker worked right.  It is much more predictable because the differential is not constantly locking and unlocking.  You hardly even notice the difference between open and welded unless you are turning with the steering very close o the locks.  Just my two cents.
