Its getting Audi wheels out back for right now, until the IRS gets done and changed over to the Chevy bolt pattern like the front. Got the other side going now too.

Took the car out for its first drive today. It started for the first time yesterday, and went really well. We dealt with a few little issues that are to be expected when putting something together for the first time, but it actually went much smoother than anticipated. We thoroughly cleaned the windshield shortly after these where taken.













The last two pictures are at the police training grounds. Drew took some video at the end of the run when the owner was pulling it on the trailer. It was very fun trying to push the cars limits.

Guess who's back?

Some of you may remember I did a back half and control arms on a D50 a while back. Well, the rest of the frame was relatively unsafe, missing cross members, front cups and UCA mount cut away too far to repair, frame rotting away from rust. I never really should have let it leave the shop, but things didn't work out that way. The cab is also pretty rough, its body dropped a few inches more in the front, rockers are splitting apart, rear cab wall is rough, and you can stick your fingers through the drive line tunnel. The dash is a little funky, and the DS door is suicided very poorly, the front hangs down a little over an inch with it adjusted all the way up, and its pretty hard to close. Its cut the striker almost in half from friction. And the bed is beyond saving, fenders welded to the cab, etc, etc. Here is the truck if you do not remember..


Anyways, he brought it back for a custom header. This was the first time I had the truck on a lift, and I basically told him I couldn't let the truck leave the shop this way again, and I wanted to pull all my stickers off of it. I said you basically need a new frame from my back half forward, and all new sheet metal. I found a donor truck, and he said go for it.




So I guess that set something off in his head, and the plan has snow balled over the last couple of days. I will now be building a new frame, reusing the back half and control arms I built, and the motor he rebuilt, and scrapping the rest of the truck. I won't say what the plans really are, because we only really went over it yesterday, and these things change a lot. But it sounds like this truck is here to get finished, even though we are basically starting over with a new truck.

Anyways, here is the header I was working on while all of this unfolded.

Equal length tuned (ish) header. Needs a flange and a little clean up, then its going to get thermal coated.








Also the Mercedes got painted, with a brush. I will take a picture when it comes back again. I dealt with the heavy steering and blown transmission.

I'm not sure I only went to one track day with him, and the transmission blew after a few laps, it wasn't smoking much then. He's driven it a lot more since then, and it doesn't smoke now. Water helps speed it up. I get it wet before wrapping it.

I realized I never took pictures of how he painted it. So here is the only one off his blog. There will probably be more after he gets back from the race. It was done with a brush.


Anyway here are some of the small changes I made to it. First is a new longer shifter. He changed his mind about the short throw. It was also difficult to shift in the old transmission because it was so rough in 1st 3rd and 5th. New rebuilt one would have been a breeze.


Milled down, cut and rotated.

And here is a bed floor I built for my friends truck, you may remember when I bagged the back of it in like 6 days.

Somewhere in between all this I made my own Halloween costume.


I cleaned the blade back off.


And polished it. You can hardly tell on my cell phone picture.


It's 1/8" cold rolled, not sharpened. Handle is 1 1/4 tube, that the blade sleeves into, and a custom cap I made on the lathe. Took about an hour to make.

And here is a shift knob I made for my friends S4 for his birthday last month.

Then I did some exhaust on a Ranchero. Its equal length down to an 1/8". all mandrel bends, hand made X pipe, blah blah blah.

Oh here was a picture of me on Halloween, lol. The mask hanging on the wall did not show up on time. Had it over nighted Thursday to have it for a party Saturday, got it the next Wednesday.

Combining both sides evens out the exhaust, makes the sound a little smoother at the tips, and it does it better than an H pipe. If you Google it there is some pretty in depth explanation.

Mostly I am too cheap to buy a legit one, the costume store ones suck, and carrying a real machete around would be slightly sketch. Plus this one is like 30 inches, so I can touch my boots with it while standing upright. Its intimidating how large it is. Lol. I was able to make it the way I want. Even though its not sharp, you could still do some serious damage. Its pretty heavy.
