this cant be right(shackle angle)
« on: Apr 08, 2007, 08:57:23 PM »
this cant be right.
today we got the front axle on but my shackle angle is way off. i understand the springs will settle but they cant settle 4". i will be suprised if they will even hit 90*
from the center of the shackle to the hanger measures 44.75" is that to far?
for a second i thaught we welded the spring hanger on backwards.  :yikes: my heart stoped and i got all light headed.              panic
iam wondering if when i ordered the springs from allpro they sent me the stock length ones by mistake.

got another 85 runner. build coming soon!!

i really hope not. that hanger is welded on there pretty heavy duty. if so leason learned. spot first then check then weld it up like there's no tomorrow.
the plan is to keep going and put the tires on and drive it for a day or so and hope that it at least settles to 90*
the hanger is almost flush. not even a .25" forward.  :-\

WEAK
i dont have a recipt for the springs. dealing with marlin crawler makes me hate dealing with other companys. check it out. when all pro sent me my springs they were just laying at my door step. no wrapping, tape cardboard, nothing. they were pretty beat up too. i got no recipt in the mail. and the paint they use looked like crap. i dont recomend all pro for any thing. every thing they got marlin has and for customer service you cant beat marlin. also while iam venting i ordered the rear upper shock mount from sky. the person who answered the phone must not wheel cause he didnt even know skys own product. i asked a few questions and he was honest enought to tell me he was not sure. when i got my shock mount i was a little let down to see i still had to fab it up to fit my truck. not that big of a deal. BUT my thing is this, if i pay good money for something i dont want to have to mess with it. now if it was a good deal than i wouldnt mind like marlins sliders for $100. that is worth the work. $80 for 1 tube with 2 bends and 2 bolts. sorry.
i will just stop

i just measured from body mount bolt to front spring hanger bolt. the bolt is forward .75"
iam still going to press on with the build. today iam going to take one spring off and measure both eye to eye and along the spring. tomorrow i will call allpro and ask them the length of the stockers and the long travels. iam hoping i have the wrong springs, that is an easyer fix than cuttin off the front hanger. more time and money. here at the shop we pay by the hour for the stall and iam payin the welder (rick) $50 an hour. it adds up quick.
but so far it has been a good time.

I was gonna say that's a bitchin shop you had access to, but I guess it should be if it costs money :gap:

I wouldn't even sweat it till you get it on the ground, plus you'll never know how much lift it yields until the springs are supporting the vehicle weight.  Drop it to the ground real quick, snap a pic and post up  :snapshot:

Your fine man, worry about that stuff if you have been driving around for a while and it has yet to settle.  Your right about the lift though, I actually removed the bottom leaf from my marlin springs so they would sit lower. If it makes ya feel better mine looked the exact same after install.

kneedownnate this is the angle with the weight of the veh.
i just took one spring off and these are the measurements i got.
from center eye to center eye was: 41.10/16"
from inside wall of the eye to inside wall of the eye (if that makes sense): 42.75"
total length of the spring measuring from the out side of the spring was: 48"
OH  i just got an idea.
iam going to go measure the saggy stock spring and see if the numbers are close
