noob with a project
« on: Mar 18, 2004, 01:00:26 AM »
howdy,

i've posted a few times before but as my project is getting more and more serious i wanted to introduce myself. my name is alfio and i'm building an '85 pickup (LB).

i don't know much about toyota trucks (had an '85 xtra cab 2WD) or 4WDs (this is my first) but i've been working on cars since i could read the manual for my dad and i've completed a restoration on a '67 VW.

right now i'm stripping the truck down to the frame and getting the cab/bed ready for paint. there's a whole lot i don't know but but i'm looking forward to putting this truck on the road and learning along the way.

i've toyed (no pun intended) with several power plant ideas (diesel, 2.7L, 22RE, etc) but since the Dept. of Consumer Affairs reassured me that a 7MGE swap is legit for this truck in California, I'm headed in that direction.

i'm looking to build a truck that is basically stock for now (to cut down on the $) but i also want to improve over weak areas of the OEM design (hence the 7MGE). i would appreciate comments/suggestions as to what are must do mods on this truck, things that one should do when doing a full restoration. i plan on dissassembling and rebuilding it bolt by bolt so i might as well get to the important stuff now.

thanks

alfio

edit: although this post makes it seem like i'm 12, i'm not

will do. i already have some pics of the generally horrible condition this truck is in. if i pull it off (the resto that is) it will be quite a change.
