Towing question

Ok, so I've got a 2001 4Runner 3.4L with a 5500lb towing capacity 500lb tongue weight.

So does that mean that I can tow 5500 behind the hitch, or is that 5500lbs total cargo including the driver and whatever else is inside the 4Runner?

I am not sure, but I have hauled about 4000 at one time with my Runner...same as your's.

Dang, I saw a 79ish 2wd toyota towing another 79ish 2wd toy on the freeway yesterday.  I'm sure that well exceeded the recommendations.

I'm sure they mean you can tow a total of 5500lbs post vehicle.  There should be a gross figure for towing, which should be near 10000lbs with the weight of the runner.

dont say anything to him though....he's STILL sensitive about it
