upper truss support
« on: Mar 16, 2007, 11:08:06 PM »
so why weld a upper truss support on and not a bottom? I think there should be one on the bottom, but I haven't seen one for the botton. Isn't easier to bend something then it is to pull a weld apart? If there is one on the bottom and your axle bends, it will have to pull the welds apart instead of bending like it would do on the top, so wouldn't it be better to have one on the bottom and on the top? I have never seen it though. Just a thought!

the 84s and 85s come with a lover support stock. but other than that your right.  I got stuck with an 83 front axle so I have to weld on both.

but you look at the after market upper and the stock lower on the 84 and 85 and it doesn't compare I think Marlin should make a better one for the bottom, but then you loose ground clearence too so... Well I was just putting it out there to see what people thought. I am not sure what you have to do to bend an axle housing but they make support trusses for a reason I guess. Unless people just think they look cool

Hey guys!

I believe the reason for putting a truss on the top as opposed to the bottom is to keep from reducing your ground clearance.  You want to make the housing stronger while at the same time not reduce ground clearance, or create any extra obstacles to get hung up on (a truss on the bottom would be a good flat face for rocks to get stuck on).  The bottom of the housing is mostly round wich is easier to slide off of rocks.    any way just my  :twocents:

x2 i agree with this too...thats why some people look for the earlier axles with no bottom truss

I was just putting it out there. Is the upper truss support a good idea. It looks cool but wouldn't you want the solid one cause to me holes, or words etc. would be weak?  :dunno:
