thats funny!! i've been playing guitar for about....a little over 6 years now!! i finally just a put a really nice Les Paul on layaway and i am buying more toyota parts as usual!!! my girlfriend's mother wants me to move in with them and ditch my apartment .... $685 not including utilities (plus cell phone, insurance, les schwab, car accident, yadayada!) has prevented me from spending any money on my self for the last 7 months!!! so i am being bad and dumping some cash into my toys!!!!

well...... i took two years off to get my finances in order(i had to grow up a little too fast) and i finally just got going at a local community college about 2 miles from my womans house!!! i thought that was right on! but if you choose a good community college he should have to pay ALOT less for school and the education will be just as good as UTI or WYOtech..... my brother went to UTI for a few months and said it was a joke!!! so i decided not to move in with my brother in phoenix and just stick around a little closer to home!!! and im glad i did!!! my dad and i just got another 85 xtra cab and we are picking it up friday!!! YEEHA!! i love new (old) toys!!! where abouts are you located?? i'd have him get into a community college, he could get certified welding and ASE certified mechanic and its just as good as a big huge expensive technical school just less than half the cost!!!!

Thats pretty much what we are thinking.  UTI paid us a home visit a couple of months ago and Cyle said no...to much $$ and had not heard great stuff.  Has thought Wyotch but again $$.  We live in Northern CA and have some semi close JC's and trade schools...  I imagine he will work for a bit after schoo and get his "real world" sea legs before venturing to far!  Thanks for the info!

From a parents stand point that is very encouraging!  I will pass it on!  Keep up the good work!

Cool deal! Thanks!! I try to do what i can to make life a little more enjoyable instead of jumping into things that i would most likely regret in the future!!

x2 on the community college.  I know ARC in sacramento has some good Certificate programs, and I believe Sierra does as well   I think Hyena on the baord went to sierra, you could ask him about that.

I really wanna get my kids stated in this when they get into that age... how did you get them started, and how did you keep there interest in it??

:respect:

I think it really depends on the kid.  My dad has no interest in any of the building aspect ( he likes the wheeling)  but I love it!  My brother has no interest in it either :dunno:  Guess I got lucky :gap:

sorry to butt in again but i would try to get into an internship or something like that or be an  appertense...... dealerships usaully have programs for it for example i like work on heavy equipment such as caterpillar and they have a program called think big and they put you too work over the summer and then starting in september they ship you off to school for 2 months then you come bac and work for 2 months and keeps on rotating like that for 2 years. they pay for probly 75% of the fees and they give you about $10000 in tools and a house to stay in while in school............. i know ford has a program similar to that also but i think it is more out of pocket

twistedtoy92

yeah, my college has an internship next summer where they set you up at a dealership like toyota or ford or chevy whatever you want and you get paid your wages and earn 7 credits in like...3 months or less!!! i'm not sure about the deals we get on tools yet though! i hope its a good one!!!! i like snap on stuff, its nice!!

Hey just thought I'd give you my  :twocents:. I've been working as a diesel tech for 2 years now at western peterbuilt and all I've ever heard about tech schools like uti and wyotech is that there worthless. I started a peterbuilt as a service tech doing oil changes and minor maintenance and over the last two years have worked my way through transmissions, diffs, and suspensions and I am now starting engine work. I had no experience when I started and I now have enough experience to do just about anything. and if you want to be cat certified, they offer online training for free if you are with a dealership. Two of the mechanics that I work with went to uti and they both agree it was a waste of money and time, instead of going to school they could have been out making money and getting a free education through experience. If he can get on with a big enough shop they might even send him to classes and schools, We just sent one of our techs to Peoria, Illinois to cats main plant to learn about the new acert engines. anyways, just something to think about.

yeah, i only know one guy that went to wyotech and thought it was awesome!! UTI and all the others have been made out to be such badass schools on tv but everyone i know thought they were a waste of money and time and didnt even finish cause it sucked so bad!! uti teaches you how to halfass everything!!!
