waggie's vs' rears
« on: Mar 11, 2007, 11:17:21 PM »
I want to move my axle forward and lift my truck enough to clear 38.5's so what I am wondering is what springs are better, waggies or rears? also by running either of those springs I am wondering what to run in the rear. I was thinking of running f150's, chevies or marlin springs in the rear? I want flex and lift without cuttin up my truck! details please like what shackles, X member, block etc. Thanks Cody

use the 3 main leafs from the toy pack, and then mix the other leafs from the waggy pack in it.  it works.  then get some marlin rear springs.

I would also go with some toy rears mixed with some waggys. and for the rear if you want something cheap go with some 57's or some 63's. If you don't want to cut and weld anything I'd probably go with some marlins also. I'm running toy rears and also a front spring hanger drop thing that i made.in the back i run 63's with a 2" block and a 2" body lift and I can clear 40's no problem

Im doin the same resurch, only wantin to clear 33s.. Are you runnin a body lift? you can do some taller spring perchs that can gain an inch. Im currently about to use (1983 3/4 toy 2wd rears mixed with some 1988 4x4 rears. FRONT) and for rears I will just use 90s chevy 2wd 63s with 2"blocks

I want to run 38's. So I am going to run my rears up front (85) mixed with wags, and get marlin 4 inch springs in the rear (the rear lift kit that marlin sales, its on sale  ) My dad has a 81 yota and his rear springs are 4 inches shorter than mine  :dunno:  then I am going to get the marlin shackles 5 inch, I have a 2 inch body lift on now and if it is to tall I will take it off.

So what material did you use for your drop hanger? Was that to move your front end more forward or to lift it up more? I just don't want cut up the fenders or anything. I was thinking about putting in a new drop hanger.

I made my own hanger from 2x4 box tubing and then made some brackets for the spring hanger.  Moved it forward and droppd it about 2 inches.  So the drop hanger gained about one inch of lift, my lift shackles gave about 1 inch of lift, and my toy rear/waggy/chevy front springs gave me 3-4 inches of lift. So a total of 5-6 inches oif lift.  Move it as far forward as you can and you could clear 38's.  But you might have to cut the fenders regardless of how high it sits.

i used 1.5" square tube on one of my trucks. I welded three of them side by side to mount them and welded some tabs on the botton for the bolt it give it a 3" drop. I also used i think 2"x4" tube on my other truck. both my trucks have the mount moved forward a few inches. I can't remember how much drop it gave it.
