s10 rears

Well I am still out looking at parts for a lift, in between work and school . I got a hint to go look at some s10 springs and so I did. I was told I need the whole mounting bracket. When i was looking at it it appeared that it was just held on by some major rivits. And i was told I could get them off by using a big hammer and chisel. Anyone have any input on this???

Well, beings how I run an S-10 I guess I should give you some input.  The springs have mucho flex to say the least.  I ran my stock rear springs with an add a leaf for several years before taking them off to install a pair of 63" full size springs.  Overall, there is not much difference in the total flex between the two.

As far as the rivets go, I have heard that they can be removed with a good chisel and a BFH .  I used a torch  on mine just for the fact I had one to use.  It has been a while since I did the rear springs but I thought that Toy and S-10 springs were the same width.  Mmmmm ... ... maybe someone can clear this up for me.  If so, just use the factory Toy mounts.  There is nothing special about the S-10 spring mounts.

If you want to get fancy, get the spring hangers from Sky's.  They are the shat!

what you want to do is get the s10 springs, remove the top leaf,(with the mount eyes)  and replace it with the top 2 leaves from the stock toy pack,  this will give you 3 inches lift and lots of flex,  i also used the remaining leafs from the toy pack under the 2 flexy s10 leafs ,  useing the divingboard overload springs from the toy and not the s10

basically you will have,  top 2 toy leafs, + #2 and #3 chevies, +remaining toy leafs,  now theres a thick leaf under the divingboard thats only maybe 12 inches long,  you can remove that and this way you might be able to reuse your u bolts

the second s10 sping is the same length as the top toy springs so you will have support the full length

just get the springs,  you dont need the mounts,
get them home clamp them in a vise,  cut the bolt that goes thru the middle of the spring pack to seperater the leafs
then remove one of your toy rears and do the same,
now the top two toy springs are kinda attached because of the military wrap on the ends,  just  put your new tie bolt thru them  and put the second and third from the top s10 springs on there,  then the rest of the toyota pack

you wont even use the top s10 leaf (that has the eyes in it)

OK so correct me if I'm wrong. Top to springs are the yota rear #1 and #2, then the Chevy's #2 and # 3, and to finish it off the rest of the yota pack.

also witch rears of the Chevy's do I want, the pack with two spring or the pack with three?

you want the 3. personally i have those on my 83. i would use the complete s10 pack and maybe add a toyota leaf or 2 in there. for the front spring mount i used a piece of 1/4" 2.5" square tube. they are soft that for sure and do add lift

S10 2wd rears with the 3 pack plus the bottom load leaf make 4,  loose the top  and the bottom load leaf and use the 2 in between

this way  its a bolt in deal  and you dont have to make any brackets  or hangers

So this is how it goes,  just got back from the junk yard with 1 spring. Yea about that,  just two bolts  left, the bottom shackle bolt. The next thing you know someones yelling "pack it up and head to the front", mother F*cker. I will be heading back first thing in the morning.

Now that i have the rear set up, what about the front? I want to do rears, but is that enough, don't I need to mix it up with another pack of some kind, like a waggy? And if I use the rears don't I need to rear mount the front, using a hanger? And is it a good idea to rear mount the holes or should I just try to deal with the driveline?

how about a picture. that usuelly helps . the pics arent the best but you can see the front mount. all it is, is a piece of .25" 2.5"x2.5" square tube. then cut at and angle to your liking

gavin is right, there super soft. I was jumping on the back of his "truck" and it felt like i was on a trampoline
