I was under my 86 runner getting ready to install a budbuilt crossmember when i wiped some grime off the side of the tranny and lo and behold it's a Aisin Warner 30 80 LE. What the hell is that. Anyone familiar with this? :dunno:

Its another name for an A340E or AW4 auto....
The same box is used in Isuzu's, Toyota's, Volvo's and GM Jeep Cherokee's

Could I bolt a gear driven case behind this tranny?

It sounds like you have a A340 trans.
If your trans uses 9 bolts to attach the transfercase to the back of the trans, than a Marlin would bolt right on using my 1/2" adapter plate to a 23 spline gear driven t-case.

marlin, are you saying that a marlin 4.7/1 with the correct adaptor will work behind an a340e?  here's my situation, i have a a340h that is junk, my buddy has a 2wd runner with what must have an a340e in it, can i buy that from him and a tcase from you and be a happy camper?
