New Product - Heavy Duty Pressure Plate Bolt Kit!
« on: Jan 29, 2007, 04:25:12 PM »
http://www.marlincrawler.com/htm/transmission/clutch.htm

We are happy to announce a great addition to our outstanding clutch line-up: A Heavy Duty Pressure Plate Bolt Kit!

From our Online Catalog Listing:

Heavy Duty Pressure Plate Bolt Kit

The ORIGINAL Toyota Rock Crawling Clutch Company is happy to offer this great addition to our Outstanding Clutch Line-up: Heavy Duty Pressure Plate Bolt Kit.
For more than 7 years we have been selling our Heavy Duty Clutch Kits designed by Marlin himself. We decided that since we are the first to bring speciality Toyota Rock Crawling Clutches to the market, why not also be the first to offer a Special Rock Crawling Heavy Duty Pressure Plate Bolt Kit?
This kit replaces your stock Grade-5 bolts with stronger Grade-8.8 bolts. These Grade-8.8 bolts are rated at 91-ksi shear strength which is almost 25% stronger than the factory Grade-5 bolts (75-ksi). Our Heavy Duty Bolt Kit will enable your pressure plate to withstand forces up to 25% greater than stock!

We recommend placing a touch of oil on the threads and torque the bolts to 20 ft-lbs during installation.

Here is a picture from the Catalog Page:

Are the pressure plate bolts a common issue? Just curious, at 9 bucks I added them to the order I just made anyway.

I have not seen the factory bolts shear off in service, but I have seen many factory bolts break from being over tightened.

But when I say break, from my experience, they yield and twist, yet they are still installed and ran! I've removed factory bolts before and only the bolt heads came off; the threaded section stays in the hole. That means that bolt was as useful as a wooden peg.

In terms of the factory ones failing in service? No, I have not heard of this. But we offer them because it is a very inexpensive and very practical way to make an important component more reliable.

These Grade-8.8 bolts will not stretch as much as the Grade-5 bolts (stronger tensile strength) so they may be removed/replaced many times more. Because they are stronger, they may also be torqued to 20 ft-lbs instead of I believe 12 ft-lbs (factory bolts), which clamps the pressure plate more firmly to the flywheel (and higher friction between the two).

I think its a no-brainer. Its cheap, simple, great to have if you lost any/all of your factory bolts, everything else is "Heavy Duty" so why not the bolts too-

Marlin has had these bolts in his cabinet for a looong time. Marlin has been using them for many years now.

We have many small items like this that have never gone on the website.
We have many more new products, that have needed to be available online, that we are working on putting up soon.

Regards,
BigMike
