Is it possible to do a rear steer set-up on a toyota stock rear axle? What mods would need to be done? Do you need a different type of axle? I was told the only stupid question was the one not asked so Im asking. Any info on this is greatly appreciated. Thanks

Gittinit

I was alwayse told a stupid question deserves a stupid answer, but here is a good one. A toyota front used as a steering axle would only be appriote for the lightest of go carts. I am a true beliver in toyota strength but for the $$$ spent to set a toy axle up for rearsteer you could easily upgrade to a stronger axle like a dana 60. So basically my answer is why?

So basically you would have to use a front axle in order to have rear steer? Im just trying to learn how it works because really I dont know and im just interested.

No, you can't use a rear axle and convert it. (at least that i've every heard of) You would have to use a front end turned around like gettinit said. Strength as a rear is questionable. Although longfields and hub flanges would be a huge improvement over earlier attempts. Not to mention that it wouldn't be street legal either. It would be a consideration on a light weight trail only buggy though.

In theory you could use a rear axle but after you modified it for rear steer you'd basically have a front axle.. lol..
