Anybody truss their toyota rear axles???
« on: Jan 16, 2007, 09:08:50 AM »
I'm looking at adding a truss to my rear 86+ rear axle before I get my rear suspension welded and bolted up.  I have been thinking about it but haven't found too many people truss their rears.  I was going to use a piece of 3 x 6 x 1/4 tubing but haven't been able to find that size.  I can find 2 x 6 but not the 3 inch wide stuff.

Another idea was to use 6 inch wide strap, make two of them and put them 3 inches apart and then cap the top with some 3" strap.  I don't plan on hanging links off of it quite yet.

Thanks  :beerchug:

I haven't considered trussing the rear yet.  I have shaved the drain plug off though.

Thanks for the links.  I don't have a star on Pirate and the google search using pirate doesn't work worth a darn.  Thanks AllSet.

Regarding shaving the plug, worth it or not?  If it's worth it, I might as well do it now while I've got the axle on jackstands.  Does anybody add any material to the bottom of the diff to protect it?  I've got diff guards but they only protect the front of the diff.
