SAS Shackle Length
« on: Jan 15, 2007, 09:36:21 AM »
I have the Marlin 4" USA SAS kit. It comes with 5.5" eye-to-eye shackles (2" over stock). I am going to make a new set of shackles of my own design. Should I maintain 5.5" eye-to-eye or is there any reason to go to a different length?

Thanks for any feedback.

If you go bigger or smaller you'll need to change the mounting point on the frame to keep the same height.

I say keep it 5.5"

The Longfield fund is getting really close! I think it's at $550 :) Thanks again for contributing.

I will post a buildup thread here soon. I haven't done any work on the truck since the last exocage update, but over the last few days I have been clearing out the garage in preparation. I have to have the IFS out by next Saturday because I sold the lift. Hopefully my health keeps improving. Right now the fatigue factor is what keeps me from working on it.

Wish I was closer to give you a hand

I appreciate the offer. I'd like to just meet up and shoot the bull with you, actually. My brother is coming down from Bakersfield to lend a hand, so I should be good to go. Every day I am feeling 10x better.

Anyone else have comments/advice on changing shackle length?

are you making your own shackles in replace for the ones you got from the kit? to keep the ride height lower? sorry just unsure. id keep the ones you got. i have the 4" kit just like you and they seem to be just the right length. they swing forward and back quite a bit under compression and allow for good travel up an down. my trucks got a little more droop, which i like.

They are going to replace the ones in the kit. I just want to build some bling shackles of my own design - it has nothing to do with wanting to change the length. I am going to sell the ones that came with the kit.
