Here's my progress so far.  Not tooo far and it has taken me a few months. I am a fulltime Astrophysics student and have little time.  I only want quality components so it takes me a while to save for parts.

The other truck is my '83 parts truck.
The front has a  complete front axle rebuild. All seals and gaskets.

As you can see I have not touched the rear yet :rivers:

Thanks, I will in the Next month rebuilding the whole rear with a detroit locker and Marlin 4" rear springs :usa:

 Nice truck.  It took me a long time to save up the money and parts as well.  Think thats the case for pretty much everyone.

I wish you weren't so far away, I'd probably take that convertable cab off your hands :gap:

Not right now.  I am going to keep the cap on my '82 and put a roofrack and swing out tire carrier bumper on it :usa:

I don't have much $$$ and I need a detroit to finish the rear.

I'll keep you posted.

i dont know anything about astrophysics,  but i do know about  the "physics  of a  cinder block stacked  the wrong way  as  a jack stand  :slap:

any latteral movement  of that truck  could cause the blocks  to crumble  and crush you like a GRAPE

if you use block turn them over the way they are ment to be  and  put a  piece of 2x8  between them so they dont press against each other

Finally making some more progress.  Leveling out the rear with some 6" Malin shackles.Got a Donor T-case  for $130 shipped on the way so I can start my dual cases.  Got some pictures to post later.  Tested the truck out a bit and I love the spool out back.  Rears flex good but the fronts don't flex for crap!!  Time for Marlin!!

Its been tough as my '83 Volvo GLT was rearended in June and I am just now getting it back.  Gotta work on that too.  I'll post some more pics in the next few days!

79coyotefrg

sorry to hear about the Volvo,

Yeah I am still toasted about it!!
I bought it 2 years back from the original owners.  Now has 186,000.  Body is mint.  Has a $3000 stereo, new watercooled T3 turbo. It is my other project.  Going to be swapping the AW71 Auto for a Getrag Grp A gearbox :beerchug:.  The shop has had a hard time finding trim pieces and other wierd stuff for it.

Plekto

Love the Fontucky Fab (tm) hoist   :gap:

Yeah, it's not a good idea.  Wood is very tough by comparison and while it will shift, it won't crumble.  Cinder blocks literally give you *zero* warning before they crumble - just a loud crack and down it all goes.
(don't ask me how I know this...   :headshake:  )

P.S. Jack stands and 2*8s work a lot better for not a lot of money.  One mishap and it's going to cost you more for that insurance deductible than you spent on the $30 stands.

omfg dude...i hope your not majoring in structural engineering....

Got a question here.  Looking to upgrade to hysteer.  Do most people run power steering with it?  I don't have power steering right now and am thinking about upgrading.

79coyotefrg

yea  you  have to get a power steering box  from a  86  -95  truck  aka ifs  steering box,

here mine

Want me to change it?
