4.3 headache

is there a reason every spring pack i've ever bought has low grade center pins?
seems like i break them every few years. ( and yes my u-bolts are tight !)
just wondering if there designed that way for safety. i guess they'd stretch instead of shearing?

every pin i've ever broke i replaced with a grade 8 bolt, never broke a grade 8 yet.
all i want is a little more than i'll ever get!!

also these are marlins 4" usa rears ( which i've run for 2 years, and they're awesome  )
i took a file to the old pins and they seem way softer than even a grade 5 .

just wondering what anyone elses thoughts are on this?

also here's how i round the head on a grade 8 with a bench grinder .
run the nut all the way on the bolt your using as a center pin then clamp down on the nut with your vise grips
or you could use a drill and put your bolt in it and tighten the chuck.

got the head pretty round!

the grinding wheel initially grabs at the corners of the bolt head starting it to turn as the bolt spins inside the nut.

alot safer this way than holding it in your fingers.

For my center bolts on my springs i used a grade 8 socket head cap screw that i turned down in the lathe just a wee bit.  :D

boggerunner

ive used 14mm toyota bolts, they seem to fit fine, but i think thier grade quality is less than 5

4.3 been awhile where have you been?  I am the one that dropped the cooler in front of your new tow rig going up to the round up.  Again not my fault.  Thanks again for helping me out, picking up the    Didn't meen to hijack your thread.  We tried to weld leaf spring packs together on the Barret lake trail, as a trail fix and they broke again my advice is to bring spares. Another advice always keep an eye on your cooler
