i decided that i needed more power in my garage and since the panel was out of space i took out the spa circuit and used that space to feed a subpanel and then fed the spa into the sub panel.   notice how crappy the electrician that wired the house in the first place panel looks.  i will probably clean it up later on

Bringing this back from the dead, finally got around to installing the floor I bought a year ago, and charlie and I did some painting as well.

Before:

Paint:

Floor:
Out with the carpet, in with the laminate

Just need to do the baseboards, door trim, and transitions, and it'll be done.  Then its on to the hallway (also going laminate) and painting the back bedrooms

Here's my shed project AKA "The Garage"  did a 4x8 design so I could still use the big pad to work on my truck.  The only other place on the driveway to work is between the house and fence with not much room to spare.  Total cost about $500

the inside and tonight's project was the hinged shelf So that I can put my tires away more easily.  I will put in a hook so the 2x4 will not be needed to prop it up.

This morning our main water line broke from the street to the house.  We finally fixed it, but man was it a mess.  I noticed the ground was more wet than yesterday, and I didn't water the grass for the water to drip from the hose bib.  So I dug a bit by hand, and as I dug deeper, the more moist the mud got, until I finally hit water.  The pipe was busted.  So I dug up the front of the house about 3 feet deep to finally get to the pipe.  After digging it up, I went and bought all the stuff needed to replace the bad piping.  New hose bib, pipe, main shut off valve, and the little nick nacks that all add up so fast.  After a trip to Lowe's and some good funds, I came back and repaired the mess.  Of course there was some nice language, some I think I even made up in between.  Then checked for leaks.  No leaks, which is great, then recovered the nightmare I had unveiled.   :boozer:

^ Had something similar, earlier this year... noticed a wet spot in the back yard, started digging and found an old 3/4" GIP rusted and stressed by tree root that had split open. Ended up placing 60' of PVC from the front yard to the back, all trenched by hand, under rocks, roots, and drains for gutters. Turned out to be a lot more work than I had expected, but since it only fed hose bibbs out back, I could take my time. Sure hauled off a lot of rocks, though.

I know what you are talking about Stocker.  Last Year my main drain pipe from the front of the house to the street was backing up all because of a stupid tree, that the morons at the city had planted right above the pipes.  It went through mine and the neighbors.  So I called the city asking is it mine or their tree, and waited and waited for a response.  I finally said screw them and drilled a hole through the trunk, chained it to my old dodge truck, and ripped that s.o.b. right out of the ground.  After I had trenched it to that point so I could replace it that day.  Then replaced it with all new abs instead of that crappy clay pipe they had in there.  What a mess though, then today this crap.

Today I decided to dig up my front yard to see why I was losing water pressure again.  Come to find out, there was another leak thanks to another nice galvanized pipe again.  So I got pissed off, made up a few new bad words, and jack hammered this lovely mother earth a new hole, if you know what I mean.  Then afterwards, replaced that garbage with nice new pvc, schedule 40, not that thin sprinkler garbage, where you glue it, and as long as you don't hit it with a shovel, you are fine.  You can see the old pipe I cut off and left below the new one I ran.  It was close to 3 feet deep, we just went with code.  So a plumber buddy of mine came by to help me do it, since I am not a plumber, and we dug it up, changed the pipe, and covered it all in a day.  Oh yeah, there was about 4 inches of concrete, or hard pan, too.  Here are a few pics of this project.  I am glad it is finally done right now.  They also used 2 elbows at the street end to line up with the original trenching about 2 feet off.  It was an awesome workout though. :muscles:

HULK.... Looks much better now, hope that's the last of the bad stuff! I'm not a fan of GIP either, schedule 40 PVC is the way to go.  :beerchug:

Tomorrow I will finish painting the outside of the house.  While I was painting the house our den started leaking wife called me at work one day stating we had a leak in the den could I come home.  She moped up about 3 gallons.  I got home took out the wet vac & filled up a 16gallon vac.  Found out the foundation had a leak & that's where the water came from.  Dug that up tared it replaced all the underground drains for the gutters as well as putting in underground drains around the house just to make sure we would not have more leaks.  also took out 3 large trees including grinding the stumps & removed a granite wall.  See what painting the house will get you.   :hammerhead:

Jimbo74...Mounting a tv bracket above a fireplace is actually pretty simple.  You want to get masonry ancors for it from Lowes or Home Depot.  I use 2.5 to 3 inch bolts.  It is good that you have a mantle to help the heat from going to the tv and harming it.  I have mounted plenty of t.v.'s above fireplaces, and that is the way to go.  I once mounted a 72 inch flatscreen, and that thing must have weighed a ton, but we got it up there.

ok, so what if the wall is faux brick? there are a couple holes in it now from the previous owner, well, they don't go all the way through, but look to be at least 1.5" deep in the mortar, the realtor and previous owner told my wife it was faux brick, but i have no idea....

You can use the same kind of anchors.  I hung a t.v. at my cousins house above a fireplace with the same anchors.  If you were in town, I'd be more than happy to help you hang it and run the wiring.  The only thing is, when you drill for the anchor holes, go one size smaller than what is suggests for that anchor size.  The reason being is that the kind of brick you have is softer that cement brick, that way you can hammer the anchor in, and it will be a lot stronger that way.

ok... so another issue..... most of the house has 2 prong plugs...... however, i na light switch, i saw 3 wires, but only 2 were used..... does this mean the house is wired for a ground plug? or how does this work? i want all the plugs to be 3 prong..... even if they are not a gfci plug, then the circuit breaker in the garage should throw, right?

haha, i know nothing about electrical.... i do know there is a hot, a ground, and a nuetral? however, i don't know there standard colors or how they work......

i am from the car world, where there is positive, red..... and negative black -- which is also the ground ( on most cars, some do wierd backwards stuff)
