I am looking to buy a toy (90's era) and am wondering what the big advantages of a 6 over a 4cy. I will drive it on the road DD mostly and off road the truck 3 to 8 times a year and 1 time at Moab or WA, CO trails. Truck plans are 33 to 35's with e-lockers f/r, and maybe a t-case gearbox if there is enough money.  Can you see a reason to buy a 6 cy or will a 4cy be sufficient? Any opinions will help me, thanks, Bear

are you planning on a s.a.s.? I say if your keeping the ifs go 95+ v6, if anything else go 4cyl

not dissing on the 3.0 v6 I have always liked them but there are alot of bad reviews on them. do your resurch first. good luck.

the easiest and cheapest way to go would be a 4cyl. truck expecially if u wanna go dual t-cases

I might go with the dual set up. I believe you have to have a manual for a dual set up? Yes i am going to go with a SAS.

boggerunner

the dual setup has been done with a 4 cyl auto, i saw it on extreme 4x4 on spike for a formula toy, its just alot more expensive, more adaptors, go with a 5spd.

First of all, do you want to be in the slow lane on mtn passes, or the one doing all the passing??  I run 4 cyl because I want fuel economy over hp!  V6 gets less gas mileage!  From what I've heard the stk toyota with a 3.0 or the 3.4, gets horrible gas mileage!  But if you really want passing power, or power for climbing mountain passes, go for the v6!  If your planning on doing a motor swap, I'd go for the 2.7 3rz!  They kick butt!  But the 22r/e is a proven motor!  This is where you should start at, on deciding what motor to look for!  With the right gearing a 4cyl would be more than sufficient!

Go with the 4 cyl 5 speed you will get a t-case with gears instead of a chain and with the 90/95 4 cyl 5 speed combo they have a ton of after market support.
