Rear springs on the front
« on: Dec 24, 2006, 11:42:51 PM »
I heard you can use the rear springs off your Toyota and put them on the front. What are the benefits to doing this? What would be required to do this? How much lift will it give you?

stock toyota rears in the front are way to soft youll have to put some leaves into the pack to stiffen them up. They give you about four inches of lift and are extremely flexy. Most people who run rears have f-150 leaves added to their rear pack to help stiffen them out, and run 63" chevys in the rear. I hear it works pretty well but don't personally run them.

Well, I have f-150 psrings going in the back (perches are already welded to the frame) so all I would have to do is cut down a leaf or two and add it to the front ones (from another pack), right? That way I don't have to get the high steer kit in order to use the rears on the front, since the guide bolts sit about 1" farther forward.

I ran rears up front for a while.  Like what was said above, they are extremely flexy but many people run them.  The biggest problem that I had running them is that after a while they tend to break down and sag.

you can also add some waggy springs in there or cut down some chevy springs leaves.  i added both those mixture to my rear toyota springs for the front and have been running them for over 2 years with great results, and they haven't sagged at all.

Yada Yada...SEARCH!...Yada Yada

Now that we got this out of the way we can continue.

There are many many threads that discuss putting rears up front, but I think you might want to do more research specifically about running rears up front without high steer.  I have no experence with it, but it seems that the stock steering might not be able to handle the amount of flex you could get.

The search didn't work for me... but thanks.
I know you can't use rears for the front w/o high steer. I actually was talking about adding to the front usuing some fords or something, but what do I know?

I just tried searching for "rears up front" and got 13 pages, quite a bit relevant :dunno:

If you try and just ad leaves to your existing pack then it won't work well.  Your stock leaves are too flat to start out with.  Does this sound more like what you're looking for?
