My moms exboyfriend is selling his 79 CJ7. It was hit (not too bad) a few years ago. It need a fender, hood, grill, and radiator. He replaced the hood, fender, and grill and has the radiator but it's not in yet. I guess the very front of the frame is tweaked but the body shop said it wasn't bad and they could straighten it for 150-200 bucks. His insurance co. totalled it so it has a salvage title. The rest of the jeep is in great condition and has a 304 in it. He wants 400 for it just to get it out of his driveway. My question is, Should I buy it, fix it and resell it trying to make a few bucks or should I just buy it and build it into another off roader to go out with the 4runner?

This is the email he sent me, think it's worth it? The rest of it is in great shape, red with black hard top with tinted windows. He said he would take 600 for it.

The frame needs to be straightened. It is bent somewhere up front tweaking the front end about 1 to 2 inches off center.

It needs a radiator

Somewhere during either the tow from the scene or the tow down to Sacramento the rear drive line came loose and is missing. The drive line also destroyed the mufflers and exhaust from the mufflers on back before it probably fell off. Probably needs new U joints.

The dash inside is dented a little with the tach gauge wiped out by my knee (I have already purchased a new tach that needs to be installed)

The emergency brake cable is broke and would need to be replaced.

The engine has been sitting for about 2 and 1/2 years but was running at the time of the crash so I don't know what work it may need.

I have purchased the new hood, front bumper and rt front fender as well as all hardwear (hood latches etc.)

I need $750.00 for the cost of the items I have already purchased and it is yours.

This is all I can think of it needing. Purchase would include a spare tire w/rim in GREAT condition (I don't know if it has even been used), a Warn winch (sp), bikini top with soft doors to use when the hard top is off.

so is this for sale?  or is this something you have?  :dunno:  if it is for sale, you've got it in the wrong section.  If not, sounds like a good start to a rig, actually a great one.  If the damage is as minimal as you say, you may be able to rake in a coupla grand for that jeep.  I don't see any cjs around here for less than 3500 anymore :dunno:  check out a truck trader sometime, even ones in pretty shoddy shape are going for some nice $$

Yeah I just copied his email. I am serriously thinking of buying it atleast parting it out. It comes with a lot of extra parts. Depending on how bad it really is, I may build it and keep it.

I'd go take a look, see if you can talk him down a little, but I'm betting you can get double your $$ in parts
