its not worth it in my opinion, i just got done swappin one into an 84 2wd toy, and it has been a pain in the arse, atleast with the 22re u can stand on it and not blow up everything, just some of the smaller stuff, if u are gonna swap in the motor, u might as well swap in all of the chevy drivetrain, go with something smaller like the vortec 4.3 chevy v6, alot easier and all the power u need

X2. If you are crawling, a 350 is not worth it plus you have a lot of issues to address like cooling, and what transmission to run.  Just put a 22RE back into and don't give it a second thought.

Are you saying that half ton axles are an upgrade from toy axles? ??? A well built 22series motor and some toy 8'' axles is a great combo. Even a dana 44 or corprate 10 bolt is no match for a small block, ask me how I know. :attention:

It depends who is driving. I don't know anything about those trannys but that is a lot of power and you are gonna bust a lot of other stuff.

Toyotas don't break as much as other makes of vehicles because they don't have the power to break themselves. Look at a fullsize with a big V8. They are always broke down on the trail. With a Toyota you don't need much horsepower to get it  :twocents:

I am in the process of building my 81 with a 350 stock turbo 400 and Dana 300 transfer case.  I am using cromoloy axles.  I am putting on block hugger headers.  I am going to see if I can actually put the drive train in on Weds.  If not then on Mon. probably.

boggerunner

i didnt use the block huggers cause they put the exhaust inside the framerails, and the local 4x4 shop wanter $325 for them, and i got these headers for 50 bucks

topar

Well then I scored the guy that is helping me build my truck gave them to me.  He has owned them for about two years and was going to put them on a bronco but never finished it.  I will have to see what I can do about running the exhaust though.

topar

Your inner finders are removed.  Was this due to the V8?

topar

Is that the Toyota radiator?  I am trying to decide to try and run mine from the 22R or go get one.  I think the Toy radiator will not cool the motor enough.

boggerunner

i cut out the inner fenders cause it gets more air moving throught the engine bay, and the toy radiator didnt work, im runnin a 2 core aluminum radiator out of an early 90 s-10 blazer with the 4.3, and it cools great

skid

Toyota 3.4l v6.  Bucket load lighter, better mileage, and still Toyota.  Parts will have a chance of living then.  The v8 thing gets old, alway broke.   Both mechanicaly and in the wallet.

Hey boggerunner, is that little fuel pump gonna keep up with that carb?  I'm running the same one on my truck, and it barely seems to keep up with my weber.
