Thanksgiving weekend Bald Mountain Camping Trip

blane525, TURBO, BIRDDOG, and myself will be running Bald Mountain over Thanksgiving Weekend.

BIRDDOG gets off work at 3pm on Saturday, Nov 25th, so we will be heading up around 4-5pm to camp at Bald and just hang out.

Might be one of the few last chances to wheel before the snow hits. Everyone's invited. I might leave a bit early and head up around 2-3pm, but I've not decided.

dagnabit.. gotta go to inlaws in Pahrump of all places. I took the loop from the snow park down to Dinkey creek last Sunday. Snowed on us the whol time and had 2 inches in places near base camp. Snowed again Monday I believe.... Have fun Mike.

TURBO and I just did a "TURBO SPEED RUN" to the Tower and back home. We made it from my driveway to the Tower in just over 2 1/2 hours, which almost tied his best record. We didn't do any wheeling, in fact we didn't air down or even use 4WD, as we went in through the backway fireroad, which is only about a 20 min drive from the Highway to the tower.

I'll post some pics up later. We left Fresno at 1:30 am this morning and got to the tower just before 4am. We were back home by 7am. There is NO snow at all. It wasn't too cold, but it was windy and thus had a horrid windchill that I was unprepared for in my light jacket with no hood. My ears were ready to fall off. TURBO showed me where "Bumper Breaker Rock" is which reminded me of the Golden Crack up at Moab, he showed me the "DC Hardway" which we walked through as it is off limits and requires a permit to run, and also where the "Horseshoe Loop" is. I never knew about any of these obsticles up there, really interesting to see them.

Looking forward to the run in 6 more days. We will most likely meet at the usual Starbucks/Quizno/Panda Express parking lot out at HWY168 & Herdon Saturday evening around 5pm.

I'll keep this updated though the week if anything changes.

Yeah I checked the weather report and it's looking pretty dry and relatively warm. I'd be surprised to see snow.

Hey Mike,
  Where are you thinking of camping? Theres a decent sized spot about a quarter- half mile before you get to the green gate on Rock Creek road on the right side (opposite side of the gate) It's pretty good size and has trees all around it so the wind shouldn't be too bad. Has 2 entrances so for those of us with trailers, it should be pretty easy to maneuver. Just a thought, let me know where you're thinking.

We are thinking of coming in from the Tamarack side and camp at the base camp where Moonlight madness camps. I don't know the camp, but BIRDDOG is talking to me about it.

We are not planning on wheeling Sat. night. Just head up there and camp and hang out and have fun

Yeah Moonlight base camp is huge. Got a sitter, still working on a Sunday school sub.

We have no plans for Friday. I will be at the shop working on the new offices.

Here are the up to date Thanksgiving Bald Mtn Trip Details:

When?	Saturday Night at 5:30 PM
Where?	Dirt Parking Lot in Prather at HWY168 and Auberry Road
What's the plan?	We will leave Prather no later than 6 PM and camp before the Green Gate on Rock Creek Road on the right hand side.
What CB Channel?	CANNEL 23
What will you do on Sunday?	Run the whole trail and have fun!!

BIRDDOG and I have an itchen to go Camping, so we just want to get out in the elements and camp. We will wake up and hit the trail in the morning, so if you either can't make it or don't want to hang out at the camp then come up really early Sunday morning

Can't wait to get out! I'll be taking many pics Gonna be fun at the fire
