Differential work
« on: Nov 09, 2006, 10:38:35 PM »
Hey all,  im ready for my new next project but I've seem to run into some problems and thought if i could get some questions answered. Before posing i did do some research around but was unable to find any in the FAQ's. Well here it goes.

I thinking about 4.88's on my 84 p/u wid 35's. but what i have run into is:

the gear has 27 spline with 10 bolts.

I also wanted a truetrac on my rear axle because im not always going off road with my truck but its half half. the truetrac has 30 splines.

So the question is, is that gear going to fit with the truetrac?

also what is a spline? yahoo search these days are just pulling up junks.

This might sound weird because i don't know much. what is the spline count on my truck?

I did a ebay search and there is a 45mm hub and 50 mm hub for the truetrac. which will fit mine?

Thanks.

if its a 4wd axle it will be a 30 spline only the 2wd and the ifs front end had 27 spline axles going into the carrier, the splines are the grooves that are on the end of the axle shaft that transfer all the touque from the diff to the axle i can probably dig up a picture if you need it i dont know any thing about the 45 or 50 mil hubs for the truetrack

V6 and turbo 2wd's also have 5 lug 8" 30 spline axles.

No confusion there.
