and what about an alternator kill, so that its not shorting out? maybe not though...
as far as drainage, what about a larger tee section(4" bigger than the cone?, i.e. 2" all around) inverted over the cone?
(see attached sketch)?

just a quick one, whadda ya think?

Do you think .50 cal would be enough? Better get it quick...before the ban comes back!

I think I've got you beat...I lived in DC (that's District of Columbia, if anyone wants to know...no one in particular!) during the "Super Fly" days, rural Georgia in the 60's and I am late of Nashville, Tn. Bubba, I seen me some ghetto!

Well, I guess it wasn't included in the assault rifle ban (coming soon to a Congress near you)...but it is banned. I can't own one!

Well, well...I presumed he was talking about a machine gun...who puts a Barrett .50 cal or a hand gun on a turret?

Thats not to shabby of an idea... now as far as a prefilter, is that in the sense of the stock filter and then one more at the top??

I was just talking to my buddy and he actually had a suggestion, he said that they make what are called " Water Socks"... i guess what they are is oil filled "socks" that go over your stock or after market air filter, and what they do is shed water as it hits the sock.... So what i was thinking was putting a sock (probably pantyhoes) over the top of the inlet valve (the snorkel head) and putting K&N oil on the sock....making it "Water resistant", just mainly from any rain or mud splashes...

 i was thinking mosquito net fastened w/ metal banding or something but you get the idea, now i see what cha' mean by boxing the intake, maybe use the stock air box, find out what its gonna take to seal it, and use a K&N OEM type filter (cheaper) or even the stockie filter, once the box is sealed, use a flange coupler, w/ a 3" female end & connect the and run the tube up w/ flex & solid tube ip the windshield pillar, make the (for lack of a better word) "water baffle" a bit smaller than shown, i.e. 3" snorkel, 6-8" TEE, w/top cap, prefilter, & bottom w/weep holes, the bottom could be a end cap w/ a 3" hole drilled & 1/2" preforations. (stable & will drain because its sloped) of course there will be a middle section of pipe connecting & each end of the tee to the caps.
Want me to CAD up that?

dang, you can't read it.. the left one say that there are going to have to be a couple of things that need to be moved around. The top one say that the red lines represent the plastic box, and the one closest to the fender says that that will be the hole for the PVC....

Keep in mind that the top and left plastic pieces are going to be permenant, so you will be able to remove the rest when ever you want. Those two pieces will remain and act as a heat and splash guard..... now the rest will have to be custom cut to the vehical, but will be able to be water tight... it's going to be a hard thing to accomplish, but you get the general idea...

have you seen the stock air box? it has an inlet and outlet approx 3" in dia. so, if you remove that "ram air" filter, and use the stock box, you might be helping yourself more in the economical and available for everyone department.

HAHA, there it is

This one is basically the design for yota with cold air intake. Now with the stock box, we can just plum into the box it's self. Now i didn't have a stock air box on my truck when i bought it, but i'm pretty sure i can pick one up from a junk yard or a you-pull it.... that way i can get mesurments on how big and where to plum.

Keep up the idea's...

What's the point of the top section? Why not just use an elbow section instead.

weep holes are for the water, also, the reason for using the tee& short section is to allow the intake snorkel to go up past the intake, allowing water to hit the pipe, run down the side and out the weep holes, hopefully.

Damn, thats a good idea... the only thing i see being a problem is the fact that your using a 90 degree elbowwhen you should be using a 45 degree angle elbow. The reason for that is because the pipping is running along side the pillar, which would make that 90 degree stick toward the sky.. if it where a 45 degree, then it would be pointing forward toward the front of the vehicle and almost parallel to the ground...

It is a good idea. But in my experience, not necessary.  All motors can and do handle just fine a certain degree of moisture.
I put the 180 deg bend in the top of mine to point the filter down and also to make any water travel up to the bend before it could enter the intake. (plus I thought it looked better than just pointing straight up)
But look at the ARB snorkels. They don't have any kind of water separation system that I know of, and it dosent seem to be an issue.
Anyway..... I still think that it is a good idea, But why complicate it if you don't have to?
You have a Jeep?  That's cute.... So does Barbi.

thats true, but this is going to be something i am going to market... i don't mind it at all, but people are picky... so i figure that  i will do it so the main intake spout is parrallel to the ground...
