Help me remove...
« on: Nov 07, 2006, 08:22:33 PM »
The rubber junk that is on the bottom of the cab. I know I have seen some where easy way's to remove it but for the life of me I can not find it now. So for the five thousandth time can some one help me out?

Hammer and chisel?  Air hammer maybe?
IFS is best kept at ambient temperature in a pile of scrap in the backyard.  When kept under a functioning vehicle, it tends to greatly diminish said vehicle's offroad ability.     -reklund5

Well the reason I want to remove it is I am going to tub the cab. When you weld near it, it gets hot and flames up. My wife gets sick of sitting in the cab with a squirt bottle on "fire detail" so I am trying to remove it so I don't have to worry about it.

If you mean the black 4-5mm thick soundproofing stuff that's stuck to the floor of the truck cab, under the carpeting, it's a Pain to remove when it's warm, but when it's cold or even cool outside, strike it with a carpenters hammer a couple times. The floorboard will flex but the black stuff will shatter, then you just pick up the pieces. Doesn't hafta be freezing outside, just chilly...after a couple whacks you'll find the right amount of force and then it comes off easy. Prying or scraping does'nt really work fer shat.  :_order:

get some dry ice and lay it in the cab or even regular ice will work but it will make a mess the ice will cause it to frease then just start beating the crap out of it with a hammer at it will all chip off, works like a charm

i used the wire wheel, took like 3 or more hours, nasty stuff, esp. in the air, BLACK boogers for a week. I know, I know, i shouldhave worn a air mask. I agree that this way is a PTA. Honestly, im going to leave it on my other truck, it is soung dampening ya know, so, if you do any highway driving, its gonna be noisy. The chisel sounds like a killer idea, if you can get it to stiffen up.

Fire Detail.

 :rofl2: :rofl2:

I must be the only one that laughed at this.

I too, ask my wife to do some interesting "tasks" in the garage.

I used a air hammer with a wide end on it, the blows shocks the shtuff right off in large sections, then use gasoline on the seams where the glue got to deep.
