I have a 85 yota stock leaves with shackles for lift and 2 inch body and barley clear 36 sx's. I want to clear 37 toyos, now i have been reading a ton in this site. Correct me if I'm wrong, if I run 63 chevies rear no blocks, with waggys front it would lift my truck 4 inches. But with a crossmember and spring mounts under the frame instead of through the frame and like a 4-6 inch shackle, i should clear a 37's easy. the wag springs would move my axle forward 2 or so inches, do shocks front and rear, i have 5150s I think for rear (they have a piggy back res.) and 9000s in front with f350 shock mounts (front). I am guessing it would preform good in both the rocks (articulation) and on the trail (smoothness) I have never wheeled in the snow, this season will be my first and i want a truck that can preform and make me look half way decent. (until i get better lol) Yea this is a back yard project but i don't have the money for like the marlin kit and it seems like a lot of people put lifts together. So i am asking if this is the ticket or do i save my money an get the marlin kit.

you do NOT  want to move the shackle  to under the frame  instead of thru theframe,  use  some 4-5 inch lift springs,  :psss:  Marlin sells the best,  and his front hanger   and  shortest shackles  you can get away with

if it rubs...  cut it off

boggerunner

i dont see a prob with shackle hangers under the frame, my 4runner has the rear shackle hangers off my 79 on the front leaves, and it runs fine down the interstate at 85

my buddy did that on his truck it looks so much better and it does add to the amount of lift, So am I correct about the combo of stuff and how much lift i would get or no. i cant afford the marlin hanger or leaves to me marlin is like a jewlery store you can look but not buy ya know. i am getting by with what i got but i will get there.

I just changed my front suspension to a through the frame because I was getting some bad pinion angles.  you need to have your suspension eyes level or your leaf springs won't work the way they are suppose to.  I also toasted 2 sets of springs because of the under frame shackle setup.  By doing this it will over flex your springs as well.  If you need more lift run a taller leaf spring.  I ran 37's with only 4" of lift, I just trimmed some.

So yeah don't do it from first hand experience.

ok. i understand. but i still want to know if i am right or not, does chevies and wags lift you and if so how much i DO not want to cut up my truck i trimmed all 4 fenders that is all i am doing. am i not asking the right questions because i never get my whole question answered.

i have no experience with waggys,  i do have experience  with  hybrid springs,  meaning  toy  top 2 leaves  with f150 2wd  springs under them,  lilbuddy  ran  f150's  in the rear  and seemed to flex  better than the 63 chevies

ok well I was just focusing on the shackle question first.

A buddy of mine runs chevy's and runs 4" marlin springs with a 1" body lift.  He clears just fine.  The only real reason you need more lift is because of body contact on the firewall.  If you move you axle forward a little you'll be just fine.  You really only need about 5" of lift to clear 37's well.  I hate seeing rigs that sit really high just to clear tires.  You can do it cleanly.

Now what I'd do is run the waggy springs up front or a custom rear spring pack up front.  By running a custom built rear pack you'll move the axle forward to clear the firewall and get around 4-5" of lift.  The rear chevy's are ok for a low cost spring and will give you around 4" of lift.  Just put a little larger shackle if you need to

Does this truck have crossover steering?  If not scrap the rears up front idea and just throw the waggy's in there.  Same front to center distance as stock springs so you won't have steering issues.  If you can afford to go with crossover that's a way better setup and with rears and the axle moved up you can run 38's with the lift you have now and don't have to build it so tall which is good on the rocks.
