Engine Rebuilt in the NorthWest
« on: Nov 01, 2006, 08:14:56 AM »
I live in the Puyallup Wa area and in need of a good shop or individual that rebuilds engines. I have a 85 Toy with 22RE engine. It has developed a knocking sound. Does anybody know where I can take the vehicle to get it checked out that is responsible and honest? I am planning a trip to Boise ID over Thanksgiving and plan on 2 days of rock crawling. There are some great trails there.  Thanks in advance.

John's Foreign Engines is a little bit north of Portland.  A coworker of mine had his engine rebuilt there and they backed their work 100%.  He ended up getting a couple of cams that were bad and required tearing into the engine twice.  This was a part problem, not a build problem, and there was no additional charge for the work.  You can also get a remanufactured engine from them for about $1,200 and send them your core.
1989 4Runner: Dual Ultimate (Inchworm front & Marlin 4.70 rear), Marlin Twin Stick, 1200-lb clutch, 4.88 R&P, Aussie Front, Detroit rear, 30-spline Longs, Long hub gears, ARP hub and knuckle studs & 35x12.50 Cooper STT PRO tires.  Marlin rear bumper & sliders.  FROR front bumper.  SAS with Alcan springs & Rancho 9000XL shocks.  Budbuilt Bolt-on traction bar.  Custom Interior Cage by Those Guys Rod and Customs.

Thanks everybody for your reponse. I am not able to do the R&R so I need a shop that does it all. I did find a couple of shops around Puyallup Wa. that I am looking at.

Took my truck to Pacific Engine in Tacoma.  The guy in the shop had some picture of a Jeg engine performance competition they went to in Oct. They placed 3rd. Very inpressive.
