i have been battleing my charging system with no luck. i was going to take it to a shop but then i figured that i could just get hepl from this board without paying way to much. somewhere in my stock system there is somthing wrong or missing.

I am looking for someone that know how to wire up the charging system to help me out. i just want to wire up my own basic system that will work. i have a 22r alt and voltage regulator that are in working condition and i know how to wire up stuff so i would like to wire up completly new system that has nothing to do with the stock system. i was thinking that some one has wired up a buggy simular before so i just need to know how to make it work. please help. thanks in advance. Ray.

Glen, paging glen to the front counter please...

You can use an early 80s celica alt, internally regulated.  He runs one as a second alt.  I was going to do this also and just run a seperate volt meter.

  um yes,  i run a 80 celica  alt,  its a 60 amp  with internal reg, i ran  a wire to a switch on the dash  from  the plug  on the alt  and a heavy wire to the battery,  thats all,  i f running dual batteries  it works best, right now  im running on just 1 battery,  so  if i accidentally  bump that switch  then my  charge light comes on because its getting overcharged,  i turn my headlights on  and the light goes out,   hmm  needs a relay in there

allright i am going to go get a new alternator with an internal regulator. i want one that will still bolt up to the 22r stock position. so i was thinking that a alt off of a newer 22re or celica would work still. the question is what model would be the best one for simplicty? 79coyote is using one off of a 80 celica will this bolt up to the stock location?

if i am using a newer one there is four wires needed to be used i know the big wire that bolts to the alt goes to the battery direct and i know that there is one wire that is a 12volt hot lead that goes on with the key. i think that that wire is the one that plug into the alt perpendicular to the other two. is this correct? and if so what do the other two wires connect to.

all right plain and simple first person to make my truck charge gets $50. marlin credit + shipping.

i will buy my own parts an all you have to do is tell me how to wire it in. requirements it needs to bolt up to stock 22r alternator location. i was thinking a newer alt with internal regulator would be the simpleist but dont know which one is the easiest.

some thing in my stock syestem is screwed or missing i bought a new voltage regulator and alt did nothing so want a k.i.s.s.(keep it simple stupid) system that i can wire up my self. i am tired of not having a truck so i am rewarding  some body for helping me.

the 80  celica had a electric heated rear window,  and wiper,  the 80-82  should be the same   they have 3 wires,  1 big one to the battery  and 2  small one goes to the ignition,  or another key on circuit,  and the other goes to your charge light
thats all you need

not the later 4 wire

hey Glen, maybe you can help me for free?  my batt light comes on, and i just installed a new alternator & battery, so i took it out and had it tested to be sure i didnt short nothing, its good, & charges great. how can i test to be sure its charging my system? how does the wire signal the batt light?( could be signal wire broken, where is that bugger?) if this is off topic, i can re-post somewhere else.
thanks,
John

allright went to town and got it from checker for $46.00 cheaper than just the regular alternator for my truck.

the two plug ins are just two hot leads that come on with a switch or the key right.

NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO

Kragen/checker alternators are absolute junk!!!  Trust me, it's not worth the initial savings when you hafta deal with the aggrevation of replacing several alternators before you finally wise up and buy a quality unit.  Ask me how I know!

guess it is how much you want to spend
you can go to a bone yard and look around you want a ford unit off a mid 80 to mid 90 van unit and the mount

you can redrill the holse in the mount to line up the pully
you can take this to any good alternatory shop and they can convert it to a one wire 180 amp unit which is what the police use and at idle it is make 80 am twice what a stock toyota unit makes
but cost will be around 255.00

no one makes a high out put kit for them yet

one ,main rason why the attery goes dead is a fuseable link that gets blow so not poer to battery
take a good look at your wires or just run a new battery wire from alternator to batter
