Nonesense poopie pants...He had just rolled it about an hour before I took the picture and the windshield had shattered. He had to drive it home so he popped his back window out and duct taped it to the front.Oh,and his girl was a few months pregnant back then.

Very easy to keep it simple, especially for a novice. Get a 2" BB with shocks from Rubicon Express for under $200, that includes shocks(im sure the stock ones need to be changed) Trim the fenders and you will clear 31's. With that height chances are you wont need a SYE, but every XJ is different so no promises. TC is either a NP231 or a NP242 both decent cases but the 231 is better and a little stronger with more aftermarket support. A low range in the TC, tera sells a 4.1 that goes for $700 if your lucky. Get some rock rails for it and some other armor and you should be good to go. Rear axle is either a D35 or a 27spline 8.25, both c-cliped and weak. Look for a D44 for a XJ they came in 87-89 easy bolt on upgrade and could be had for around $250 or so from the bone yard.
Goodluck, if you have any more questions shoot...

 Thanks Infernal..

oldyellercj: Lookin at the pic of the TC shifter, ill tell you, you've got a NP231. Advantage if you end up needing a SYE, you can get a hack N Tap from RE for about $90 and get a stock front driveshaft for an XJ and u have yourself a doube CV shaft.

Sorry bud,CJs did not come with 231s.

Where would I verify this?  I've been told for years that some cj5s came with an oddfire buick v6, beit a 225, 231 or 4.1(242?), and have driven a supposedly stock cj with an oddfire.  I'ma hafta do some checkin on that one...

I'm at work so I have no pictures of my first car here but I will post some when I get home. It was a 1986 XJ with the stock axles, stock 4 banger that I put a cold air intake on and an accel ignition. It was SLLLOOOOWWWWW. 10 inch skyjacker long arm lift which actually did me well. axles were the stock dana 30's with a spool in the rear and an arb up front both had 4.55's from yukon. I had 35 inch procomp xterrains and for the transfer case it had the tera 4:1 gears. I sold her for $650 because of rock rash. Also had a CB, roof rack and 4 KC lights. Plus I put a boat air horn on it....loud sucker haha. My point of posting all this is those stock axles should work fine for her while she is learning to wheel and don't worry about her going too fast in an XJ like that haha. Someday I will build one up again with a 4.0 High output 60's and coil overs with an internal cage.

For what its worth, i would never run 35's on that setup. D30-D35 is not a setup for 35's especially a welded 35. Suprised you didnt gernade that thing. To run 35's on a D30 i would highly suggest alloys, and atleast a D44 or a 8.8 outback..

Only pictures I have as the rest were deleted from my hard drive. I am also surprised my rear end didn't blow up. I would have swapped 60's into it if I kept it though. (these are on my old property so no one jump on me for killing trees) and yes I know they are poser shots haha

We've met.

Seriously though Dave, just go over to Daves after the motor swap and drop that thing off. I'm sure he would have some Ideas about the budget end of it. Hell, for now lets just wheel it. I wanna see what Jessica can do! :driving:
