Does anyone run propane on their trucks?  I am putting mine back together next month and am considering switching to propane.  Any thoughts?  Any experience?

do a search for it, lots of people here run it

unless you know how to piece together your own system, stay away from the ebay specials

Yeah that is where I was going to get it from.  Just wondering if anyone has done it and if they thought it was worth it.  No one around my area runs propane.  So I have not heard anything good or bad.

Kyota  runs propane  and seems to love it,  you can also  go crazy with the compression ratio in a rebuild
you can run up to 12:1  CR  :woohoo:

I will be keeping my motor mostly stock.  I don't break a whole lot that way you know no horses.  First time I have ever built a vehicle and not wanted to add power.  My biggest problem is the fact that my truck runs like crap once it is at any angle.

i think its  altitude  sensitive   but  your on the east coast  so NBD

Isn't there a slight loss in power also?  I know you can compensate for that by upping the compression ratio like you said, but you gotta get the head off for that.  Incidentally, I have a line on copper head gaskets now, and he says he can make em any thickness you want!

sorry, been working out of town all week

basically carbs suck and propane doesnt :talkingn: never had a problem with it, runs at any angle, cant give you a pwer loss camparo because I went to 38's the same time I did the conversion.

Propane is awesome. I went through Cary for my small block setup and he is great to deal with. The supposed power loss can be overcome by tuning the mixer and bumping the timing. I am @ roughly 20+/- initial timing and based on seat of the pants feel, I think I gained power.

 Sounds great thanks for the info.  Once I start putting my truck together I let you guys know if I go propain.

Propane works awesome, I put it on my truck and it helped with the power a little but I think it was because the carb was a stock 84 that had never been touched that I know of. It doesn't matter what angle it's at, it will never sound like it's about to die, and it cranks right up when it dies. And I know for a fact that it will run upside down, but I wouldn't recomend it.

Propane would be awesome if it weren't for filling it up. Does anyone know if anyone makes a propane conversion kit for the 22R that lets you use gasoline as well?

I know Cary has dual fuel systems for carbed V6 and V8's but not sure if theres one for the 22R yet. Call Cary 480.430.8033

Already talked to Cary and there isn't one for the 22R that he offers but I was wondering if there were any companies that made a kit for the 22R?

I'm still very interested in this.  Seems like a decent way to get away from the carb problems, but the kits seem kinda spendy.  I've checked out that kit on ebay too, didn't look too bad, but seems like I remember recently hearing that it's kinda poorly put together.

i have a couple of buddies that have done it on 1 toyota and many chevys running 496 stroker motors.. they didnt see any loss of power on either..  they own forklift shops so they just but it together from parts that forklifts use.. it's all the same.. i just bought a setup for my future 4.3 L swap bolts right up ....  i'll post up some pics  but i'll will be putting together a setup for my 22r from just parts off of a toyota forklift..

here's some pic's of my setup that i got for my 4.3L

Heeeeeeeeeeeeeyyyyyyyyyyy, what carb style will that fit in place of?  Forgive the ignorant question, but I have a holley 4bbl manifold for my 20r head, so if I could get a nice, clean setup like that to fit then I'd be set!
