thinking of buying this....

This is what he told me.....it is not 4wd, it is automatic. it is drivable, although its running very rough. needs a tune up. I used it primarily for hauling things around when I lived in the country. Now I live in the city and have no use for it. I have had a lot of people tell me that they were coming to get it only to not show up. If you show up with $300 cash it is yours. I will be available tomorrow but you will need to let me know so I will know to be there. Possibly I may be home later this evening....

Was there a 1980 truck with an automatic? It is 2wd but I'm gonna use it as a daily driver so I'm not worried about it....Any Input?

Automatic :dunno:

Could be a good project.

If it's auto I don't think it's stock, unless I'm mistaken and 2WD trucks back then had that option. Either way, I'd go to his place with cash in hand and take a look first. Check the drivers side of the block for what engine it is (22R/20R/other). If it's in decent condition I'd say go for it. If it's auto you could swap in a 5-speed for not too much trouble. Take a look first, then  :driving:  :beerchug:

Yes, automatics were available long before then in the 2wd trucks.  If you go to do a tune up and find it has a diesel in there, I'll buy it for twice what you do.  You'd actually be surprised how tight those trucks can feel with a good automatic.  I bought an 87, had my friend follow me with my 91, stepped on it and was totally surprised by how hard it pulled.

I'd buy it!!!  For $300 you can't go wrong!  I know guys that buy $2-300 beaters all the time and run the piss out of them and when they die, they get another one!
