official exo cage thread

hey guys i want to start a thread for all the people out ther that need help on building there exos... please post pics of dimensions ... bending welding any sort of the fabrication and finished product of the exos youve done... thanks alot from all of us who havent done one yet but need help!!!

what about making a internal cage thread as well.  I'm almost done making mine and i've learned a lot along the way.  An exo cage is in the future plans for one of my other rigs so I'll be interested to see what other people have to say before I start bending my tube

yea sounds like a good idea lets just make it the thread just the official "cage" thread so we can get input on any type of cage

i have good pics of a internal cage that i am doing in a bmw m5 out of 2" cromoly. i am pretty good at it now just got to learn your bender and take your time.

That is a nice cage. I really like the lines that you chose to follow the body. One question though what is the small bend in the cross member in front of the lower part of the windshild for? Sorry if that is a stupid question I am kind of a noob to this

That particular part was me gittin in a hurry . Really, it was ment to keep the cowl bar tight and still allow me to use both wipers. If you look close you will notice it didn't work out. When the pass side wiper was extended to the driver side it would contact the bar, thus causing the wipers to stop. My other option is to mod the wiper arm, which shouldn't be hard but I got lazy. If I had planned a little better, and made the bends further apart it would have been great.  If I had it do do over again ,I would do something like this>

I have helped with 2 cages but not done my own, a trick that I can give you is to use cheap pieces of thin steal like at a hardware store to mock up what you are going to do.  Use those on your bender first to save you some money.

i guess ill contribute, heres my junk main hoop is 1 1/2 x .125 wall dom and the front bumper part is 1 1/2 .156 dom the rest is 1 1/2 x .120 hrew the only reason i went to .156 dom on the front was cus of the last two pics (no parking brake and tree)

I haven't finished it yet but these are the only pictures I have on my computer right now.  I'll take some more up to date pictures tomorrow

All I can say is make sure and have a good full scale layout to check your bends and know where are your start and stop points are.


I know you can't tell how close it is but my bends are so increadibly close to the dash. I have never liked how other cages don't give you any leg room for getting in and out of the rig.

Gotrocks, that looks like a great start.  One of the reasons I can't even consider an interior cage is because of how hard it is too fit me and the cage in the cab

haha well I'll let you know once I finish this one.  This is my first cage and its taking me a little bit of time to get it all done but I'm tired of doing something fast just to finish it so I decided that something like this needs to be taking slowly especially for the first time.  I'll try to get some more pictures for you guys.  I totally forgot to this evening when I was in the shop.

i wish i would of taken the slow approach too. not just the get it done and get on the trail approach cuz my truck could have been done a whole lot nicer than it has been
