the 3.0  isnt a great motor,    you would be better off with a early 22R block under your 20R head

Its not worth the effort.  If you wanna go v6, swap in a 3.4  Its barely worth the effort to swap in another 3.0 in the place of an existing one

Ditto for both suggestions.  Don't waste your time with that engine.  It's really easy to build a hybrid, and you'll be fairly happy with the performance.

It would be going in a 1980 body and frame. I can get everything for 300 tranny and x-fer case. Thats why I want it. Also it has like 90,000 miles on it so thats another reason while mine has like 300,000 on it.

well the tranny and tcase is worth the $300  but  your gonna hate yourself later,   esp  when you realise  a 20R head on a 22r block  will get you more HP

The 3.0 isn't as bad an engine as most people let on. I have one in my 92 4runner and so far have had absolutelly no trouble with it. Sure there are better swaps out there but if you can get it relativelly cheap I would go for it.

What's that saying, just because you can doesnt mean you should.  I know you asked for how to info on the swap and all you got were don't do it's probably because it's not a good swap.  If you look at whats popular the 3.0 aint.  But if you can get the whole package including frame perches, engine harness, fuel tank everything you can, it's better to have it and not need it then running all over the place collecting parts.

Do I need the gas tank? And you mean motor mounts (Perches)?

yeah, he means motor mounts.  And yes, you will want that gas tank.  The 3.0 isn't great on fuel economy, so you'll want the extra capacity.  Not to mention, it is so much easier to use as much of the 3.0 components as possible.

As far as the motors themselves go, I'm on my third, and each motor has been different!! I can honestly say that Toyota really had their head up their :moon: when designing this motor.  3 motors, 2 different years, 3 different wiring systems. :yikes: The swap can be a huge headache, and that is into a vehicle already wired for it.  If you're gonna do it, make sure you pull ALL wiring harnesses, and be prepared to go through them.  This is not fun.

A few questions
1. Do you have the donor vehicle, or are you just getting the drivetrain.
2. Have you done motor swpas before?  Do you have experience dealing with wiring diagrams and so forth.
3. Do you have patience?

If you don't have some of these, I would consider going the hybrid motor route.  If you do go the 3.0 route, feel free to ask me whatever questions you need answered
