Leaf Spring Bushings attn: BigMike
« on: Sep 27, 2006, 10:14:23 AM »
So I need to replace a broken leaf spring with a stock replacement and I want new bushings and shackles.  Will Marlins shackles and poly bushings work with stock springs?  I was thinking 4.5" shackles.

When I got my replacements (used) they had half of the shackles on them still.  I couldn't get the bolts out of the bushings, so I ended up just ripping the rubber apart to get the bolts out.  Do I still have to press out the metal sleeve to get the new bushings in?  Thanks.

OK thanks.  While we're on the topic of bushings...

What's anyone's opinion on Delrin bushings?  We have an ass load of that stuff at work and I thought of just making my own shackles and bushings from 3/8" plate and delrin.  Would delrin bushings need grease fittings?  Or are they even a good idea for a daily driver?  Any thoughts?

Yeah, I thought they would, but I wasn't totally sure.  I was wondering if the bushings were meant for Marlin's lift springs and I wasn't certain if they were different than stock.

If you take a hacksaw and cut from the inside of the bushing where the split in the eye is the bushing sleeve will come out easier.

Delron is too hard and will not allow flex. Use the neoprene bushings.

Good tip, thanks.

So that's a no go on the delrin?  I saw some suspension kits for muscle cars that use them, but I guess a truck is a bit different.  May stiffer bushings are more beneficial for tight handling cars rather than 4x4s?

  that's why they sell them for all the bushing points on cars, tighten it up and keep the slop/sway to a minimum.  I actually bought factory toyota bushings just incase I use stock rears up front.
