Electrical Wiring on 82
« on: Sep 09, 2006, 02:21:13 AM »
I bought this truck two weeks ago,it's an 82. I bought a battery, hooked up the wire to the coil to get it to start. It idles roughly but i'm working on it. But here's the REAL question.
It's a wiring nightmare. The The A.C., heater, stereo, and voltimeter and oil pressure guages r gone. I have misc wires everywhere. Seems like every light has a short. When I hook up the battery. The back up lights automatically turn on, so i pulled the fuse. then when i start it, the 4WD light brightens when i accelerate and flickers when i let off the gas. So how hard would it be to rewire pretty much everything. It's federal emissions 22R 4sp. Or is there someone who offers new wiring harneses for 1st gen toys. if not how about good used ones? Please help me with anything you can. I'll get up pics tomorrow morning.

Hey there bud,
I'm new with toyota trucks but I have done many restorations from absolutly nothing. Laying out every single wire in a car. Since I found this painless wire harness I've newer fooled with anything else. Go to this link:
http://www.kwikwire.com/wh_22.html

and buy this:
The Kwik Wire 22 Harness includes:

High / Low Beam
Parking Lights
Gauge Power / Interior / Dash Lights
Turn Signal / Hazard Lights
Brake Lights
Horn / Cooling Fan Circuit
Ignition/Coil/Distributor
Starter Circuit
Charging / Alternator Circuit
Wipers
Fuel Pump
Radio / Accessory (Constant Hot)
Radio / Accessory (Ignition Hot)
AC/Heat Power & Fan
Pre-wired Neutral safety
Power Antenna
Power Windows
Power Door Locks
Cruise Control
Cigarette Lighter
(2) Auxiliary Connections

50 amp Maxi fused circuit for (instead of fusible link)
   Charging / Alternator Circuit
   Starter / Ignition

The power wires for the gauges should be plenty. If not you could always slice a gauge wire and use on 2 gauges.

If you have intentions on a fuel injected setup the also get this:

Since your doing a wire for wire build check out this site too:
http://www.dakotadigital.com/index.cfm/page/ptype=results/category_id=59/home_id=59/mode=cat/cat59.htm

Get some "modern" upgrades for your ride. The 22 Circuit setup will have everything you need to wire your car plus plenty of room to grow for power options/ accessories later on!
