Toyota Drivetrain in a Suzuki?
« on: Jul 26, 2006, 12:38:51 PM »
Is it possible to put in Toyota's 3RZ Engine and a W series Transmission and a 95 gear driven T-case?
Into any Suzuki?

curious why you would want to? the samurai is a much inferior platform to start with and requires extensive modification to be a good trail machine. i have watched a good friend try to build one the few years. it is a good rig but still has some major shortcomings. nothing is left of the stock suspension, 4linked front/rear, stretched wheelbase, list goes on and on.

I was just curious if it could be done and to see if any one else did it. The 3Rz is a nice 4 cylinder I always wanted a Japanese convertable that had a solid axel and it seems samurias are easier to come by than the FJ40s

i have seen Toyota Sammies in magazines so i'm sure it can be done. if you want a Toy convetible look for an early 4Runner. they are perfect on the trails

It can be done if you want to hook your rear axle up directly to the transmisson and skip the driveshaft. :rofl2:

Yup, I have heard of this conversion. I have never seen one but it has been bounced around by a few people I know of that have Sammi's.

YES  the RX-7 rotary engine,  they are extremely lightweight,  about equal to the 1.3L and can be modded to 500HP

and i think the bell housings  are very close,  not to mention having a 12,000 rpm redline :yikes:

I've got a sammi with all the Toyota stuff (22RE/tranny/solid axles). Bought it as a runner, its a hack job so I have lots to do and/or redo but its a hoot to drive. Right now it is just stock truck parts rolling on 31's, future plans include Jeep springs, 34" LTB's, 5.29's, 4.7 transfer case and crossover steering.

Buddy of mine has one stretched and linked on 35's with 22R/toyota crawl box/Dana 300/Dana 44's. When he finds a turbo tranny, its getting the 3.4 Taco V6 he has sitting in the garage

With the 22R(E) and stock wheelbase you can use a stock front shaft as the rear shaft. Cut the radiator support to move the rad forward and keep the engine fan or get an electric one on the front of the radiator. That's how mine was done, everything but the electric fan and the extra front shaft came off a rusted POS donor

3RZ might be a little harder as I understand the bellhousing is longer. I'm not going to try one until I have a bellhousing that works with the turbo tranny in my parts collection

Hope this helps!

of course it can be done. Anything can be done. I'm sure someone could put a 4BT/NV4500/Stak/toys w/mog outters in a Sami - just a matter of how much work you want to do.

samurai's are a GREAT platform to start with.  and the swap can and has been done lots.

I'm a samurai guy as well as a yota guy and would honestly prefer the samurai tub on my frame rather than the cab but I've done too much work to my cab to ditch it now.

zuwharrie.com will help you out A LOT.  :twocents:
I'm going yota JUST so I can buy from Marlin more.

The problem I would foresee with putting a toy drivetrain in a sami is just how long it is.  This may not be an issue for you if you have a lwb sami though.
