I'm looking at buying an 05 taco with a 4.0 5speed and a towing package will this be able to haul my 84 yota? Anybody else doing this?

It is a little smaller than an 05 and has a smaller motor (3.4) but it pulled a truck to the rubicon and back

You can do it, but it won't be fast.  You just need to be very concious about your brakes.

It might be a bit much for a Taco's brakes.

Hey man, I own an 06 Tacoma with the 4.0 liter, and you cant get them with a 5 speed manual, they only offer the 6 speed with the 4 liters, and 5 speed with the 4 banger, and FYI, they're rated at towing 6500 lbs with the 4.0 liters

I have a o6 taco with the 4.0, i have only pull my 8x12 enclosed trailer that is full my my hunting stuff with it. It didn't have a problem what that. For the price i would just buy a tundra a 06 tacoma is around 28,000 and you can get a nice d-cab tundra for around 32,000 and then you would be able to do all sorts of towing. Just my two cents.

I had an 05, 4.0, 6speed.  It would pull just fine but the rear springs would squat like mad.  Later I got add a leaves.

Don't think it would be a good idea. I had an 05, 4.o with an auto, it towed small to moderate loads pretty good, but a crawler with a trailer  would really tax that truck and probably work the rear end and tranny pretty hard. Especially if you factor in pulling grades. Not to mention going back down the grades. I sold mine and got a 2010 tundra with a 5.7, great tow vehicle.

My cousin pulls with a 08' Tundra 5.7 supercharged..
Pulls his 85 ext cab with trailer(scaled in at 8200)...no problem!! If the tranny could survive and rear end, that truck could probably pull 15k+
