please school me on automatic transmissions

hi i am new here i tried to search but no luck.  please school me on auto trannies.  i am looking at an 85 with 22re/auto tranny and an 86 turbo 22re with auto tranny.  are the automatic trannies good for rock crawling?  do they hold up like the w56?   is the non turbo auto and the turbo auto tranny different?  please dont flame me like on pirate. :help:

More and more folks are finding out that the autos are outstanding in the rocks. The issue with most older Yota autos is they generally have not been maintained thru the years so they have some problems. I just bought a 2001 Taco with auto and it appears that the filter has not been changed in all of it's 70k miles.....probably the fluid too. But that's gonna change now that I own it. Drivetrain parts last twice as long with autos due to the fluid cushion.

I gotta agree, autos rock on the rocks. No dealing with a 3rd pedal, stalling it, etc. Plus the shock reducing effect on the drivetrain.

the only prob ive seen with auto's are the old worn out ones that dont more at all when under a load, my f450 work truck has a 7.3 with an auto, and u gotta bump it to get up my driveway
