Tire width
« on: Jul 19, 2006, 08:42:55 AM »
I have a 16x8 wheel and was wondering if a 11.50 inch wide ltb would fit on it? Can the tire be to wide for the rim? Will a 11.50 rub on stock suspension, and if it does can it be solved with a wheel spacer. thanks, Nick

I'm running 16" wide tires on an 8" wheel with 2" back spacing and 2" spacers (0 back spacing total) and I still rub.

Not sure if that helps, but I think you should be fine.

Cool i'll order them then. Has anyone had ltb's, if so how do they wear? As for wheel spacers how wide should i go and do wheel spacers make my wheel bearings and all the other stuff wear out faster or put stress on them?  :)

Yes spacers will add more stress as they increase the scrub radius. However, with your relativley small tire and wheel combo it really will not be an issue.

LTBs dont wear too bad if you keep it under 65mph. I watched a set go bald in 12k miles on a taco. best mud tire i ever seen.

Doesn't sound all that good, even for a mudder, only 12K miles on a relatively light truck.....   was it driven aggressively?

Very aggressively. Couldn't have been driven on harder with a taco. That said, another buddy has a set on a mitsubishi SUV thing, and they've lasted 2 years of winter use only (10k ish) and look new. If its a bias ply tire, treat it like so and it'll be a good tire.

TURBO ran 10.5" wide LTBs on 8" wide 15" rims and had no problems

An 8" wide wheel is what you need to run so your good on that. I have 1.5" wheel spacers on my rig and I m running 35x14.5 boggers and I have had no issues but of course it will add stress because your putting the prybar effect on it. As far as millage on the LTB's Its like buying a Ferrari for the gas milage. LTB's are not good on the street because they are a soft tire with wide open voids between the tread blocks, the only reason they last at all is because the the tread depth is so deep. The LTB's are a biased ply tire and if you never owned one of these they are rough and though tire, over night they will create flat spots on the tire and ride like you are on a back road until they heat up. So if your not on the street a whole lot and off-road traction is a must it's a great tire, if your on the street allot you will hate the ride and you will be replacing tires more than you will like to.
