I might be picking up a '97 Runner for a screaming deal. It is the v-6 with a 5 speed. I am thinking I will do dual gear drive cases and probably go to Dana axles front and back if I do get it. I have a few concerns with these mods. I know some vehicles have a speed scensor on the rear axle, would this be one of them? If so, what is a way to make it work with an older dana 60 rear? Second is the speedo. My suspicion is this will have an electric speedo setup, is there an easy way to allow it to read properly with the earlier t-cases?

the only sensors i can think of is for ABS but you'll be ditching that since you're swap out axles.  my buddy has a SAS'ed 97-98 4runner limited with a SC v6, 5-speed, dual t/c, dual lockers, and 35" MTR.  the thing crawls great with 4.56 gears, 2.28 t/c, and  2.57 (stock t/c).  you should be fine with the chain driven t/c unless you plan to move the diff to the other side.

good luck if you get it and swap in new axles and dual t/c.  i miss my old 96 4runner with the 5-speed - they are hard to come by.

The speed sensor is on the tranny. Is this 4Runner 4WD already? Curious what kind of deal your getting?
